And look at the 60$ coasters you get after they feel they need to terminate the service. It's fine that you like online so much... but you should care about games being playable after the company closes them down. At the very minimum they should support private servers/LAN... it's not like they are running MMO's even if they like to lie about that.

well im not paying 60 dollars for a game so it's no biggie. 30 top.
better games are out until then anyway. why play the old ones.
i mean you can still play old fifa games now. and old nfs games but there is just no one online so of course the servers will get shut down some times.

in division it's something else because it has this mmo vibe even though it's no real mmo.
just like apb or so. no point in playing it with lan mode or anything.

can't you guys mod something in? you like mods so much.

Division is nothing like an MMO. That's just their corporate bullshit machine. APB is an actual MMO.

Though I honestly don't get why you would defend these practices even if they don't matter to you. You're a consumer, you have no vested interests in those companies... so why would you defend them. Just not caring would be a more natural thing to me.

I honestly don't care about the game, but I can still see that companies being able to render your items useless is a bad thing.

Btw no need to bring that mod bullshit up, I don't bring up unrelated things that we disagree on either. Bit silly to start with things like that.

Ah, ok I misunderstood you then. I can see how people have that view, even if I'm not that big of a fan of online features in all games. Smile

Actually The Division is like an MMO but nothing like an RPG like they keep saying it is. The Division is a hub based MMO a concept introduced by Guild Wars in 2005. It has the same progression mechanics of an MMO: advance through a story to level up get increasingly better gear and skills, grinding for gear, PvE and PvP content, spongy enemies with HP bars and flying numbers for damage. These are all characteristics of an MMO.
On the other hand, besides having an equipable gear, skills and an inventory, The Division has little to do with RPG. It's as much RPG as Borderlands is, but the newer gamers seem to think that if a game has skills, items and spongy enemies is a RPG. This is a terrible misconception that the media promotes in their lack of a spine to stand against this bullshit advertisement.

You're naming RPG mechanics and attribute them as the definition of the MMO genre while saying it's nothing like an RPG Scratch Head

You do realise you can even have an MMO that's not an RPG right? Razz
Guild wars had its fair share of: not an MMO discussions back in the day as well. I think they actually advertised it as a CORPG.

These days they butcher the MMO part way too much. 50/100 instance... not really massive if we compare that to other games.

Yeah, cause grinding gear and floating numbers are mechanics of an RPG. An RPG is defined by choices and consequences that shape the personality of your character(s). Smile On a secondary plane comes the items, skills and every other thing associated with these two.

Does it seems to you like I don't know that? My objection to their crappy advertisement comes from this talk of RPG elements like mobs being spongy and apparently which apparently in their vision makes this game an RPG.
Just take a look at this video:

From that video:
"This is an RPG (Role Playing Game) roll that happened on this weapon". As an RPG enthusiast this bullshit bothers me to no end.

The definition is blurred because the press allowed this crappy marketing run rampart since MMOs got so popular. Nowadays we have games like World of Tanks or Armored Warfare advertised as MMOs when they are simple skirmishes of 15vs15 players. Hell, Battlefield is more MMO than these games.

PM sent. Smile

About the offline mode, I would love to have it (IMHO it's a waste create a so wonderful virtual world that will not be playable in the future when the servers will be turned off) but it usually means that the game is more exposed to cheaters.

I care less about offline mode, I rarely want to play old games.
The one and only game I'd like to replay is BattleForge (thx EA Rolling Eyes) but solo it wouldn't be as much fun anyway.

This would be dull as dirt to play alone. I had a short moment when guise were offline ( luckily EyePatch came soon ) and I didn't like it going alone, even if it was for side missions.

pretty much I kinda like the look of the Division and the base gameplay, but i guess I am just sick of all these psudoMMO games and pseudosocial features ... i guess "benmefits are nice"

Am I the only one who struggled with the "core feel" of gunplay?

I'm not talking about time-to-kill but the basic aiming and shooting part. It felt strangely sluggish and "off" somehow.

I find this odd, as the game will be almost entirely about shooting - so you'd think they'd get this right.

Hmm, I wonder what the hell was wrong then. It was like I couldn't line up shots properly without "over-aiming" if that makes any sense.

It felt like they'd optimised the aiming for controllers - and that mouse aiming was an afterthought.

I guess I'll have to try again.

@Casus I didn't try the keyboard + mouse combo but with a controller I really liked it, very "Gears of War style".
