omg such memories! before I had my own GG I took my schoolmate's for a night and fell down with a severe cold and stayed home for a week. The poor guy went mad and never believed me that I was really ill and not just had week-long blast with his console Laughing

Heck yeah, especially compared to GB, which I also loved. I bought 12 rechargeable AAs with 6 always in charger and 6 in the unit Smile

Yeah, I bought one but only in some early 2000s just to have some fun @ the office lol

Still casually looking for a mint or almost mint condition GB Light btw. Ebay is too expensive.

Technically this isn't overclocking, it's just setting the proc to run at the full speed it's designed for in games that are designed for it. You actually could overclock* on handhelds before, remember the PSP and the Pandora? Very Happy PSP normally ran at 222Mhz but CFW let you run plugins to overclock to 333Mhz, significantly improving performance on a handful of games that had framerate ties. Sony later unlocked this by default in a later firmware, iirc.

*again, not "really" overclocking since the proc is set to 333Mhz by default and then capped at 2/3, 222Mhz to save battery grinhurt

FYI this nintendo badge collector is likely the most evil thing ever. I've blown way to much on this fucker for a god damn virtual claw game. Making it so the badges show up on the home screen was brilliant. I can only imagine all the free money nintendo is making off this fucking thing.

Apparently it's now possible to downgrade your 3DS on firmwares >=9.3. Which means you can downgrade to 9.2, install CFW and enjoy the luxury of running games (.CIA format) without a flash cart. At least if you go out and buy a 3DS right now it won't matter what firmware you have so act quickly before a new firmware update is released.

So this thing is wide open now? I could downgrade my device and hack without any specific software, and then run the entire catalogue via memory card without any specific software or hardware?

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by without any specific software. You need certain (freely available) homebrew to facilitate the downgrade and then others to install non-legit .cia files (games).

It (a (N)3DS with FW up to 10.3) is technically as fully open now, if you downgrade, as lower firmwares have been for a while but the tools for the downgrade from above 9.2 are still new and not yet completely stable. A complete brick is possible and has supposedly happened to a couple of people. I would personaly wait a few more days/weeks for the new hacks to stabilize. Just don't update to the inevitable 10.4 FW.

It is also possible now to use a modified version of FBI (with memchunkhax2 incorporated) to install legit .cia files on 10.3 but the selection of games is of course extremely limited. Better than nothing, since I don't have any games except for the bundled one and I'm waiting with the downgrade till I can afford a bigger microSD.

I'm thinking about giving downgrade/CFW a try on a o3ds, but one thing I can't quite figure out, is how to not lose all my saves and everything, as the guides all say to wipe your card and don't really say if you can restore all your saves. Razz

And then I remember that I pretty much own all the games I have any interest in (and there aren't many) so I figure why bother? But it does look fun, and part of me wants to do it "just because" even though I probably wouldn't even install anything.

Decisions, decisions. Very Happy

savegames are stored on the game cartridges, so you wouldn't lose them. downloaded games are another story of course, although you could simply continue playing them on your sysnand, while having your cracked games installed on your emunand. or make a copy of your sysnand and use it as a base for your emunand (i think that's actually the default way to do stuff anyway)

Yah all my stuff is downloaded from eShop, I think I have like one cartridge. Razz

All the emunand/sysnand stuff scares me, I don't quite understand it all yet.

Seems like Reinand is the way to go for CFW at this point though.

well it was a bit scary for me the first time too because i went in it war too less know-how - but essentially, as long as you're in emunand, you can fuck around as much as you want, just never ever install anything to sysnand that isn't mandatory. worst case, reformat your sd card where it's stored in and make a new one. think of it like a VM in windows.

your sysnand stays untouched (except from the exploit used to launch emunand), that's the most important thing.

as for which FW to choose: reinand is ok, cakes too. i went with rxtools, it's a toss up anyway.

Alright you convinced me!

Step 1:

Downgrade:...

It's the downgrade where I'm going to lose all my saves, yah?

think saves are on the carts, but you'd lose any paid for and downloaded games. again, i think/may be wrong.

Man,

I think I'm dead in the water here lol... I have my SD Card set up, trying to run browserhax, but it just crashes and freezes every single time.

I have my 3ds folder with Sysupdater in it, and my updates folder with all the 9.2.0 update files in it.

But I can't even get browserhax to do anything other than spit out some text very fast that I can't read, then move to a full red screen and freeze. Sad

My old3DS is on: 10.3.0-28U

EDIT:
Muahaha, took a video and saved a screencap, looks like this is what I'm getting right before the red screen crash:

EDIT 2:
Oh damn, finally it went to homebrew launcher. Trying to downgrade now...

Haha it told me to push Y so I did, and nothing appears to have happened, but I'm too scared to push anything else.

Alright now SysUpdater freezes haha... gonna' get this goddamnit.

EDIT 3:
Yep, gonna' give up for now. Between struggling with Browerhax to even get to Homebrew, then the constant freezing of SysUpdater, not worth it yet, imo. Razz

Tried all the tricks I could find, including launching FTP first before trying SysUpdater, didn't make any difference. Sad

EDIT 4:
Fuck this, I ain't no quitter. Ok, got menuhax installed through browserhax. And I'm able to boot into homebrew launcher now with holding L. Time to spam the fuck out of SysUpdater until it works. At least I'm done with bullshit Browserhax.

Now trying SafeSysUpdater. The file check reports everything "GOOD", but getting the pink dots every single time. Just gonna' keep going I guess. I have WIFI off and trying to launch FTP, then closing, then trying SafeSysUpdater, -> Pink dots everytime.

Pink dots, pink dots, pink gors, mospojofsdfmesfmefe

Went back to SysUpdater and not the Safe one, seems to be finally moving along.

EDIT 5:
WOOHOO. Made it back to 9.2

EDIT 6:
Mother of GOD. Every single step of this process seems like luck, crashes all the time.

I wouldn't wish this process on my worst enemies. Every single step you have to deal with about 50 crashes before you get anywhere.

WELL, now I can't even get back into Browserhax to watch stupid fucking Decrypt9WIP crash some more.

EDIT 7:
Ok now decrypt stupid shit is done, and backed up my sysnand, now currently cloning sysnand to emunand.

OK, got homebrew launcher and the FBI thing on my homescreen. PROGRESS.

EDIT 8:
Well I fuckd up something pretty bad, was making a ton of progress, but now something went terrible.

There is some bullshit directions eventually about hex editing some weird file. And then installing and running and pressing and holding buttons. Then shit was telling me I needed to re-install from eShop.

Went backwards and tried a bunch of steps over again, managed to maybe get through, but nowhere near what the instructions said.

Supposedly I'm at the end now, let's see what happens when I start back up...

VERDICT:
Apparently my system goes straight to the Homebrew launcher now.. is that normal?

I can run the rxTools from the homebrew list and get back to the traditional menu, the FW version states RX so I guess that's good... but I have no idea if things are working correctly.

VERDICT 2:
So I guess something went wrong somewhere, not sure where... but it's not supposed to boot into HBL. Oh well, I can at least still launch rxTools (or whatever) from HBL.. And I can confirm that all my data and save files were still ok and load fine. I was also able to update my Emunand right into 10.4

Not too shabby, but that was pure hell!

VERDICT 3:
Well, modified a few more things, and managed to get it to boot into rxTools directly now... better than HBL but still not quite sure that is correct. Trying FBI to install my first .cia game. Very Happy

VERDICT 4:
Well, installed my first .CIA game, and it booted up and ran fine and everything.. It still bothers me that I can't get the boot manager thing to function correctly still, but I think I'm 99% of the way there, and the most important pieces seem to be working correctly.. Now I need a way bigger SD Card, already ran out of space. Very Happy
