i disagree it looks "bad"... its not AAA-level pretty, sure, but id not call it bad or ugly. i mean budget was certainly an issue with the game (they were running a tight budget), but the art design is great... ive seen worse from bigger budget games and bigger releases...

I agree it looks very well given the low budget (which is reflected by the $20 price tag).
In fact the only comments I had read about the visuals that far were about how good they are (and how bad is the facial animation).
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Looks bad? It's the art style of the game and one which suits the mood perfectly. It's way better than the crappy visuals which Telltale pulls off.

Since I didn't look up the price, I was under the impression this was a AAA title judging by the praise it gets.

But AAA games are not so much praised around these parts
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."

Should I bother playing further if I thought the first two eps were average?

I have no problem with the characters, but it's taking a long time to get going. I'll keep playing.

I'd advise at least a 2 week estrogen regiment first. The game will become a lot better then.

I'm a good deal into ep 3 now, I think you guys are really exaggerating the emotional aspect. It's being told in such a childish way and it's all so cliche. I rewind after every choice, it's almost always very predictable. This game, like the Telltale games, stands and falls with the story since there isn't really any gameplay, but the story isn't really grabbing me.
Maybe I'm imagining it, but the graphics are a good deal better in ep 3.

I share this opinion, ppl are overhyping this as an excelent game, its very average, the mood and music makes most ppl go all warm and fuzzy, but its as you said all very cliche, teenage problems all over, no one over 18yo, male, will enjoy a great deal of this, unless they like this teen melodrama going on, i personaly did not enjoy this stuff when i was 18, so now that im 29..i prefer something like dreamfall, thats way better than this imo, this game, i would have to pussy out a bit just to start enjoying it, sorry if im ofending anyone, but thats the way i feel about it..

well not everyone gets emotional about the same things. I was the same. the game didn't grab me emotionally, but the art direction, music, presentation, voice casting (most of it), and the detailed environments made it very enjoyable to experience.
But as i've mentioned many times before, yes there is a constant dualism between the artsy cool and the borderline laughable, first world problem drama that prevents the game from being top shelf material for me.
It's just difficult for me to feel sorry for privileged liberal arts college kids from the imperialist west, but luckily episodes 4 and 5 are largely void of that and the game has more to offer even when you are knee deep in the made up drama that teens tend to create out of thin air.

Well I'll be damned. Many months ago, after playing the first (objectively, rather off-putting) episode, I decided to dismiss the entire game.. for the obvious reasons. Little did I know, that second chances are so full of surprises
Even with all the problems, the limited gameplay mechanics as per tradition (still, more 'interactive' than any Telltale game on the market thanks to the interesting time-manipulation, and with more meaningful choice->consequence system), despite the wooden facial animations, or the fact that I couldn't relate to pretty much anything that was depicted here , this was one hell of a ride.
Hipsterish and very annoying at times*, but also a game with proper character development, and pretty incredible attention to detail, this really stands out in every scene. I honestly didn't get a feeling of hardcore social justice propaganda from it (there was some, but the game relies on sterotypes more than anything else, affecting both guys and gals), all it does is portray the silly world of artsy college girls..which I will never understand, but perhaps I'm not supposed to.
I also liked the TLJ vibes, and the Lynch ones at some point, with good twists, thought provoking narrative and more depth than I initially imagined. Not bad, not bad really. I'd give it a solid 7,5/10, which for me is a lot when it comes to such potato movie-like genre
