Psychonauts was a fantastic game though, I'd love to see a second one IF it's on par with the original one. Sadly, Schafer lost lots of credibility after Broken Age, which will undoubtedly hurt this game as well.
Ah cmon it might not have been the best adventure ever like they promised but it was still a good game and i really can't see how they wasted the money they got, they where as transparent about it as possible, lots of developers fuck up mutch more and still don't get as mutch hate as Doublefine has gotten.
This political and anti SJW nonsense is really fkn annoying too, i really don't care one bit what political views a game developer has be it left or right wing, shit like that is for kids and stupid people.
That said Psychonauts was fkn fantastic and im really hyped about a sequell.
Oh but I didn't hate Broken Age (although I never bothered with part II), it's just that because of how that game was handled financially, will make it harder for them to find funding for another 'niche' game.
I still rate Tim Schafer a lot higher than a Peter Molineaux or even Chris Roberts. All of his games have a very unique flair to it, he's just bad at handling a budget I guess. He's the Terry Gilliam of the games industry
Yeah that's totally true he's a creative mastermind people like him shouldn't have to handle financial and management stuff as well but it's his company so he's free to do with it as he wants maybe he will see the light someday and hire someone who can do it better then him so he can do the stuff he's actually good at.

You know, I didn't really see the video or read the description before, I just did now and Valve's Erik Wolpaw (of the two Portal games) will contribute to the writing. Because he's no longer at DF it didn't cross my mind that he would be writing this (he wrote the original Psychonauts). I'm even more excited now!!

It's more than that: the guy raised his studio in the most expensive city of the world, overpaid his staff as a result, blew money on famous actors AND sides with Sarkeesian while pissing off a huge chunk of his fan base. So yeah, the guy is blacklisted in my book.
Okay? That's fine for a tweet but don't make an article out of it.

My predictions:
This will get funded.
Wasteland 3, probably too.
And a couple 2-3 more, but nothing else.
And none will make back a significant amount of money in sales that will somehow attract investors to this.

Less then 1/3 from total needed is left now,so far,it's relativey stable, dropped to around 100k-150k per day pretty fast, but so far stay that way.
So there is actually a chance it will end up around 4-6 million, the 6 is a bit overoptimistic, but it's possible if it will stay 100k stable and last days days it will go faster.

It's a decent idea *in theory* that is very unlikely to work.
I mean, think about it. Kickstarter was a vehicle for smaller developers to get the funds to make a game. Why do they need the funds? Because they can't afford to fund the game themselves or can't find a publisher to do it for them. Why? Because they make relatively niche games or are starting out and need to prove their talents.
This however is a recipe for disaster because the second money enters into it, things go all to hell. It's also wide open for abuse. Fund a game for $3.000.000, make it for $2.000.000 or pay ridiculous wages (yes I'm looking at you, Tim "$100/hour is a normal wage in San Francisco" Schafer) and you can chiffon off funds on the side. Or you can claim the game cost a lot more to make with studio funds being used and basically increase the sales threshold that has to be reached before a game makes profits.
This whole "kickstarter" of their looks like a huge scam.
But what else can you expect from Double Fine?
You seem right, it does look like a scam, or at the very least with this FIg endeavor Tim Schafer and gang are making themselves completely safe from any kind of accountability to the backers.
The fine print outlines a chain of companies through which the money travels:
1. A separate company for the fig.co website.
2.A separate company into which the backed funds are payed to, and which is held liable to the investors. (This seems to be set up for liquidation in case things turn sour. Any liability with the backers will evaporate along with it)
3. Only from there DoubleFine receives the funds, with no strings attached whatsoever.
It all seems shady as fuck. This video gives a good detailed explanation of all the things that seem fishy (from the 5 min mark onwards):
Starbreeze to publish Psychonauts 2 Due out for consoles and PC in 2018
Quote:
Starbreeze Publishing will publish Psychonauts 2, the anticipated sequel currently in development at Double Fine Productions, in 2018, the company announced. Starbreeze will invest $8 million USD to bring the game to PC and other console platforms through digital distribution.
The company will be a “major investor” in the project, which has also been funded by Double Fine itself, as well as through a successful Fig campaign. Starbreeze will be able to recoup 100 percent of its full investment, including marketing costs, with an initial revenue share of 85 percent after distribution and platform fees, and Fig crowdfunding revenue share. Starbreeze share of revenues will become 60 percent after the investment is recouped.
Damn, there's always an inner conflict when watching this sort of stuff, because the gameplay snippets look very promising. And I mean it's Psychonauts 2, I should be ecstatic by default...but then I remember about DF, their shady antics, and Schafer's egocentric remarks in the video cemented all the bipolar feels.
I really want this to succeed, but at the same time I really don't want to support them. Isodemo and then legit 1€ humblebundle here I come
