These people are genuinely expecting Star Citizen to be "the" game to end all games, so much so they're planning on LIVING inside it like some bastardised BTL or Surrogates I guess when you can afford to drop $30k into a black hole and get nothing but some pixels in return, then you can afford to buy liquid-food in IV format, the best PC and VR gear money can buy, and then just meld yourself into a chair and die inside a game
Just mentioned they will release PTU 2.0 to everyone in about a week.
Depending on the amount of bugs found by the first 1000 and how the servers are holding up.
I wonder if 2.0 runs better than the earlier version... even on my system, on Lowest settings, it STILL runs under 60fps - unless you add further config settings in user.cfg - funny thing is, it looks stunning even with most of the useless tat turned off. I can get 60fps if I use this setting:
Supposedly there will be Advanced Graphic settings at some point so you can edit this stuff in-game. But I still can't imagine what system can run the game at Ultra at 60fps - Perhaps a quad SLI....

CIG are working their collective asses of patching the alpha 2.0 with the help of all the people that are willing to put in the effort to bug report everything through the issue council.
Once most of the kinks are worked out it will come of the test servers and will be released to the rest of the backers.
In my humble opinion they are doing a bang up job and I think it looks great so far.
So people CAN steal your ship if you get out of them? And how will this ever be NOT used for griefing and bullying? I don't see a single time this will ever be used otherwise and it just means your $900 fancy ship can become someone else's property at any time? Sure, your insurance will replace the base model of the ship - if you have insurance - but that just means a net loss each time you get robbed.

What? You can't run this at Ultra60 with your GTX970? I'm sure someone else with a GTX970 around here could. Honest. Really. You just need to optimise your system properly. lol.

Right now with the basic features working it is like this:
You order the ship at the station and its locked for about 8 minutes only for you. After those 8 minutes the ship becomes avaible for all players on the server.
This "stealing" will not be possible in the final game. There will be a system where you can make you ships "save" so it cant be stolen as easy as now.
The way it is now is not the final version. Its done this way so that many things around "stealing" and "boarding" can be testet in 2.0.
Do you have a source on this, please? Because so far every single search I've run says the opposite, that ship stealing *will* be in the final game and you *can* have your ship stolen by any other player. The only difference is, you get the base model replaced via your insurance.

Afaik, stealing will be in the game, but probably not as simply as in the video.
I think that's what 3dcViper meant.
You can steal them also with boarding (I cannot imagine how they can make boarding work but.... )
I recall reading about some early 'stories' that it would be possible for the pilot to die one way or another and then anyone could just steal the ship.
You would think that in the 30th century or whatever time frame the game is set in, space ships would have some locks or id needed to board. Even mobiles nowadays have more security than those mega expensive spaceships.
It probably will not convince most of the critics here but this shows some decent alpha 2.0 gameplay.
Also a gentle reminder during the 3rd anniversary sale these past few days there have been game packages on sale for just $30. Sounds like a decent deal to me. It includes a starter ship, squadron 42 and star citizen.
If you are a backer you will be able to participate in the alpha 2.0 once it is released onto the public servers.
If you do not want to be part of the development of this game it is totally fine. Have some patience and you can always buy the game when it is released.
You are also free to grumpily criticize it from the sidelines and pre order some consolized piece of crap from one of the big publishers instead.
Wow. Could you sound any more like a commercial? "Preorder this or be a grump and buy a consolised game from publishers instead"

The only time boarding/stealing ever sounded like an appealing idea to me was in relation to AI pirates/enemies. That reminded me of X2/X3 and going EVA after disabling a craft and forcing the pirate to eject, commandeering their ship and then sending it to a shipyard Fun times! The thought of human players doing that to other human players? That way griefing trolling bullying shit lies and I can't see how it would ever be fun for anyone but the griefer.
Insurance should be for free anyway. It's just a liberty otherwise because anyone who forks out hundreds of bucks for an in game space ship is of course going to want to protect it. So it's a necessity not an optional extra. Heck even my piece of shit greenhouse with wings £30 quid ship is going to be important to me to fly about in and just to even play the game. It's a cash cow for CIG, not that it's fanboys really give a shit, they'll happily sell their livers to Chris Roberts & Co no doubt.

Yes ship stealing will be in the game but i will be very(!) difficult to do. You will not be able to "walk" into the ship and fly away like it is right now. You must hack several systems to be able to fly this ship. As ships get bigger and bigger there will be more and more systems you have to hack to take the ship over...
How this "hacking" will work... we will see.
Source? There were several interviews and arcticles over the last 3 years about this.
This whole thing about "locking" your ship up is part of the "GOST" System that CIG is working on.

Again, do you have sources for this? Please? I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and actually know exactly what's going to happen.
~edit~
What does GHOST have to do with ship stealing and securing? GHOST is a dynamic damage and lighting system no?

QUESTION:
Will there eventually be items like keycards, that will restrict where crew members can go on my ship?
Quote:
100% yes. We already have a system that's being finished now, it's what we call the GOST system (Game Object STate machine), which basically is a modularised set of logic that's built visually and is network aware, so if it's done on one client it'll be recognised on all the other clients. And you'd just have it attached to elements of your ship or any entity or item, which can read variables to trigger items etc. The whole point of it is to have things like the interaction in the retaliator in your hangars right now, the doors opening and closing for you is all driven by an early version of GOST as you go in an out etc. But that same logic can also say, "this door is locked" and to show a red light, but if you put a keycard into this slot, that might say to unlock that and 10 other doors on the ship. So that functionality is all going to be built in too. It will be functional for SQ42, you need it for it, and definitely it'll be in the PU, and eventually along the way we'll have it available to be played with in your own ships.
A german non-official page based on conjecture with no sources or information and a lot of extrapolation based on a system that CIG claims is for checking game states in relation to visual effects, lighting effects and damage? Sigh.

Okay, that one is better. Thank you. It still doesn't mention anything about stealing or protecting ships, rather it's sharing game state between multiple clients and amongst ship functions, but at least it's something.
Right now everything is just conjecture and yet whenever I search for anything relating to "ship stealing", it's always the same reply from every source; "ship stealing is the in the game, if your ship gets stolen then you get it replaced via insurance and the thief has the ship flagged as STOLEN so they can't enter high security areas without being shot at.
