Runs better than Unity for me. I can keep 60 fps on a 970 with high shadows, FXAA and HBAO+ at 1920x1080. I guess I might be able to almost run it on max settings if I locked the fps to 30.

I tried to do that yesterday out of curiosity (to see if my PC could explode, it almost did), and it's doable, though only at 1080p and with an AA that isn't too demanding. Anything above those generates drops <30fps because the game uses all the vram available. They may have used some tricks, but the engine is still not designed to be pushed beyond the consolish values (Not to mention downsampling, which destroys our poor cards).

I have to admit that the maxed-out-reshaded-downsampled game doesn't look bad, despite the Ubilod&fog:

The "small" problem is, with such settings, the average framerate is...15fps. Twice as cinematic! Razz Laughing

Are you using a Nvidia card? And if so have you enabled MFAA?
(Which, sadly, does not stand for "Muthafukkin' anti-aliasing".)

If so then disabling that should work to resolve these glitches with invisible objects.
(Switching to FXAA or disabling in-game MSAA/TXAA for ReShade SMAA could work too but you'd lose the temporal effect of TXAA and from the GeForce.com guide the blur doesn't seem to be too bad.)

Man, you are actually a fricking genius, it was really MFAA switched on globally. After I switched it off, all rendering problems disappeared instantly.

Thanks a lot.

I read about it on Guru3D where one user had visual glitches with invisible objects (The crane in the prologue part with Jacob specifically.) and after some experimentation he found that disabling MFAA resolved the issue so since your issue sounded almost identical I thought that was the problem, glad you solved it. Smile

I assume it's a glitch with the game which will either require Ubisoft to patch it and make MFAA compatible or Nvidia needs a driver with a updated profile for AC:Syndicate with a MFAA compatibility flag. Smile

Well I try to be helpful and keep a positive attitude but trying to help with say troubleshooting PC related issues is a real struggle sometimes due to the many different hardware and software combinations and of course it's not made easier by occasional buggy drivers (GPU primarily.) and rushed PC games with their own multitude of bugs and technical issues, I still have a lot to learn too. Very Happy
(Not the best at regular conversations and such but I try to chime in every now and again, too much soda sends me into some sugar driver overdrive though - Not much for actual alcohol - and I go a bit crazy but I try to limit it these days as I've gotten some somewhat older and maybe a little bit wiser. Razz )

EDIT: When did I join anyway? 2007 or so I think with discussions around Gothic 3 so it's been almost eight years now ha time flies.
(Wonder if that's far enough back to have the bug where it shows your joining date as 1970?)

EDIT: On the game itself I'm liking it so far, it's not as bad as I had first assumed due to the low "noise" Ubisoft was making about it in marketing and such and the PC delay was probably market related rather than really trying to get it to truly utilize the platform to it's fullest but it's been fully playable so far besides since I'm on a AMD GPU, the framerate being a bit lower than it probably should be. Razz

Story is very disjointed though or so it feels at least, there's been no real start to how you made a gang for example, you just free a guy during your rampage through the little territorial activities as you liberate control over the city or how to say and suddenly you're the leader of these green clad Rook types and shortly afterwards you even get your own mobile HQ on a train after a small "boss" fight.

Armor and weapon system from Unity is also streamlined a bit as now Evie and Jacob both have the same equipment but Jacob has belts and Evie has capes and their outfits differ a bit (And that's all, though there's gloves as well which I almost forgot but still a bit less than the fully segmented armor parts of previous installments.) but outfits appear to share the same stat bonuses for each character minus maybe what weapon they boost damage to with Jacob preferring knuckle-dusters and Evie either staff type weapons or the kukri.
(So nothing truly unique or such with outfits to make things a bit more interesting depending on the character you chose to play as.)

No rifles although I assume you can pick up some temporarily from downed ranged attackers and no two-hander type weapons, upgrade system where you can improve pieces of arms and armor once to boost stats is also available but the stats have been simplified a bit.
("Attack" which might be speed, "stun" and "Lethality" with armor having only defense and sneaking bonuses plus what bonuses your current outfit allows for but it's pretty limited as well.)

Both playable characters also share the same skills although you can spend them on different things depending on the character and it seems two or so skills are mainly for one particular character each or how to say with Evie having hers in the stealth related tree and Jacob in combat.

The city feels smaller than Paris and less populated but visually it's still quite detailed and the return of the weather system and how time passes is very positive even though it usually doesn't mean much but it helps immersion a bit.

Carriages are shit but I guess if you expect cars it can work as that's basically what they are, horses can not "ram" to the sides like that but eh it's a game I suppose.

Grappling gun is handy for the longer climbing sessions but nothing prevents you from actually doing it the older way and manually scaling buildings but it's pretty easy now to just automatically keep run and jump and your character will usually make it near the top immediately with only some smaller corrections being required to go left or right on occasion.

Combat is very, very spammy especially when you fight enemies above your own level which while easy due to how simple combat is handled and that enemies aren't too aggressive it's also pretty stupid to see you stunlock a gang leader for five minutes or so of constant punching and stabbing before Jacob fucking gets it and shanks the bitch to death. Razz
(That in particular is a reference to the fight I had to liberate the actual core of London from some templar type female gang leader whom I stunlocked by punching her into a building and just wailing on her until she - fuckin' finally - decided to enter the "near death" state that is required to actually kill someone by finishing them - finishing them also makes you temporarily invulnerable during said animation making combat even easier.)

You do have some options though besides stabbing stuff, you can shoot it too or throw knives which if you aim for the head deal increased damage and of course there's stealth with the usual low-visibility enemies "patrolling" the area.

EDIT: That took a bit longer to write than I had anticipated, overall the game can be enjoyable but don't expect too much and the present time part is once again presented in video only or well that's what it's been so far at least.
(At a decent discount it could be worth a buy maybe if you still like the recent entries in this series of games but it should be fully playable - including DLC too. - if you download it off the net though it might take a bit of work to set it up initially.)

No idea what the DLC plans are besides the Jack the Ripper one, will be interesting I suppose but I guess it'll be similarly black & white with Templars being evil and Assassin's good instead of a bit gray as they tried to make it appear in some of the earlier games so Templar "Jack" has to be stopped by whoever you play as in the role of a noble assassin protecting the lower class prostitutes. (Or just trying to finally get laid? Razz )

(Eh it could be interesting depending on what they do with it.)

As for the game itself, I don't like the simplification of the climbing too good, because it removes the challenge of climbing that was one of the more enjoyable things in the game.

Combat is also worse, just one button for attack and one for defense and that's it.

At least it does not crash every fifteen minutes like Unity did.

Yeah the churches and temples in the first game might have been smaller and less detailed but it was pretty satisfying when you found your way up to the top and got to glimpse these vistas showing the landscape and sprawling cities.
(Especially the landmark buildings.)

I don't remember too much from Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 since it was a while since I last played them (Including Brotherhood and Revelations.) not that it's going to happen but seeing the games remade in the newest version of the engine with the gameplay mechanics kept mostly intact would be awesome.
(Maybe refine controls a bit in the first game and enable the possibility of swimming in shallower water.)

EDIT: Not really a fan of the "collect 100 of these..." collectibles though it seems someone over at Ubisoft might not have liked them either so now you only need to collect I think it's 30 or so. Razz
(Unlocks more outfit color choices though besides the default and perhaps black I don't see many of interest.)

My progress has been hindered by an infinite loading screen after escaping with a character by carriage in sequence 7.

This happened several times in the 20 hours I've put into the game, but this time closing the game and booting it again didn't work.

If I activate eagle vision while it's loading, the screen changes from black to dark blue. Laughing

As expected, I'm not the only one to experience this. You have to reach your destination before the conversation ends else you'll experience an infinite loading screen.

Performance seems worse than (patched) Unity for me?

I could run Unity on Ultra with a pretty highish FPS

This seems very low and I haven't even got the graphics as high as Unity

I've had a look at ultra settings and it looks allot worse than Unity.

Very disappointing as the game is terrible, I only wanted to have a walk round London.
