The biggest/best mods for FF7 are ONLY for the original 1998 version. Stuff like Bootleg and Reunion are designed for it and won't work on Steam 2012 re-release unless you convert. FFVIII doesn't matter, very few mods of worth except for Roses & Wine, which works on Steam 2013 release just fine. If you're not planning on playing Bootleg or the new Reunion mod, get the Steam version of VII.

No it's not, you are free to play with 320x240 original backgrounds if you like no one is taking that away from you but there is no way to get them to look better unless they remake them completely.

The same game but prettier. Which is the entire point of a remaster I would have thought. Shame they didn't do the same for 7.

Maybe someone will AI mod the background textures to truly give it a bit more of a remaster feeling.

It's unlikely to produce desirable results on screens with characters incorporated into them. It's not magic.

The original PSX version has a more consistent style therefore, because everything was the same resolution. |
Agreed running it in 640X480 on a real crt might help but then again why bother and not just play the original version instead.
