We almost done with SOMA's age rating now, and as with all our games this is quite interesting. "I have never dealt with that sort of thing before" as already come up twice in email exchanges with the rating agency.
The reason for it being so weird is that while our games tend to be disturbing the imagery is quite subtle. So it is hard place it in a proper video game age category.
For instance, Penumbra Overture got a PEGI rating of 12 despite having a bunch of horrible things in it (check here for examples: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ni...Penumbra). The reason for the low rating was that most things were not explicit but just hinted at or done mostly with sounds.
Since SOMA deals with themes of selfhood, consciousness and stuff like that, things get even fuzzier. For instance:
"Is there any violence against living human characters?"
to which our response is:
"Well, it depends a great deal on how you define living and human".
You could really have long philosophical debates based around the age rating form.

I am so afraid of these games. Sounds silly, I know. Grown man, fearing this. But it's the truth.
I understand what you mean. But for me, I get irritated and fed up playing these "hide and seek" survival horror games. Not to mention cheap jumpscares annoy the hell out of me. Random scream = ears busted
And this is why I love RE1 and 2 so much. It's up to you to decide whether to run or fight.
Btw... you should definitely play Layers of Fear. It's one of the most refreshing horror games I've played in a long time. There are no stupid chases sequences but there are a few jump scares but none of that ear piercing garbage.
good that there is gog. that means no denuvo at least
I don't think they can afford to pay for Denuvo
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

It's decent and with fantastic graphics powered by Unity but you should have told me it's just a walking simulator. Not that's anything wrong with it but I was expecting something different.

It's in Early Access right now so they are still adding features and expanding it. But I reckon it's worth playing through once it's complete so not completely a waste of time, yes?
