I'm genuinely impressed so far, that looked like an absolute blast! Nice new augments, much improved combat, plenty of stealth options, non-lethal combat options as standard too -- and that engine! Even on the PS4 it looked great (mostly...) so I can imagine it will be spectacular on PC
It is an update version of the engine used for Absolution - which I think was a VERY good looking, VERY stable, VERY responsive engine for its time. I was stunned, when I played it for the first time.
I just really, really, REALLY hope they tone down on the whole social justice/ digital apertheid themes, and make the world nuanced. Nothing is worse than having clear good guys/bad guys. Narrative wise the mystery made DXHR great aside from the setting.
The ONE huge mistake they can make, is if they want to overdo it with the moral message. That would fuck the game for me.

After HR I have a lot of trust in the devs and think that they wont fuck it up. At least I don't see them going in heavy handed with social messages up the ass like our garden variety Sensitive Joss Whedons...
Thinking back on DXHR one can really see that the creative team was really anti-augmentation. The whole Icarus theme, Darrow conversation (which essentially was there to present the writer's opinion) and the final boss scene among many other hints and nudges. Despite that they still attempted to make the best case they could for all the stances on the issue. One could easily walk away thinking the exact opposite of what the game seemed to editorialize, and many people did. This is what separates quality social commentary from soap-boxing.
The writing team is again headed by Mary DeMerle, who I like a lot. Just this week when this whole "Mechanical Apartheid" outrage nonsense was going down she commented on the issue for Destructoid:
<..> what we are also trying to do with Deus Ex is look at the world, and trying not to judge the world but to present it in a very - we like to talk about shades of grey. So we like to present the issues to the best of our abilities without judging you or your actions, so that you can make up your own mind about it. It's one of the things I'm constantly telling the writers on the team is that you can't write dialogues that are judging, you can't come up with choices where you're slapping people in the face for their moral decisions.
You have to present them in as neutral of a way as possible to enable players to feel that and interpret it in their own way. Obviously, there will be people who are super sensitive to those sorts of things, and we recognize that, and we feel bad when we offend someone but we are trying to be as truthful and as honest as we possibly can.
We're not trying to be preachy here, just holding up the mirror. And that's one of the things about science fiction: it embraces concepts that are hard for society to see.
Which is an awfully polite way of saying "We are in the business of crafting a believable world and a good story, not in moralizing. If you are too special of a snowflake to deal with that then you should just fuck off"

Hi KiA
Sorry for the typos and weird syntax, english is not my mother tongue.
I am Gilles Matouba and there is a thin chance of you knowing me. Still, I am a veteran french game developer with 15 years of experience in the industry. Mostly at Ubisoft and Eidos Montreal.
Until september 2014 I was the Game Director of DXMD at Eidos Montreal. 3 years ago Andre Vu, the Brand Director of the DX franchise, and I coined the term 'Mechanical Apartheid'.
Thing is... I am Black (& French...). And Andre is Asian (& French).
When we decided to go all-in on delivering the experience to play as Adam Jensen, an Augmented, in a world agressively segragating his own kind, we actually wanted to offer to our audience something unique. Something that was close and very personal to us: The experience of being torn between 2 worlds and 2 identities. Augs calling you the 'uncle Tom' of the non-augs, non-augs always insecure when you're around, always deeply being scared or appaled by your mechanical body.
Somehow, it was our own individual stories... We wanted to share a little part of our own life experience (on a super dramatized degree, of course) as visible minorities in a world of prejudices sometimes not well tailored for us.
We also used the reference of south africa, israel, even brasil, french and american ghettos and any country ressorting to walls in order to segratgate a part of their own population. We meant it. This was important to us to not half-ass these analogies. BECAUSE THIS IS DEUS EX.
Deus Ex is a very mature and thoughtful franchise that wants to hook gamers on essential questions and considerations: power, control, species, science, sociology, singularity, etc.
Racism is a ey dark part of our human nature and we wanted to treat this subject. It was especially important for ME to treat this.
So it makes me sad and angry that these ignorant people just ASSUME that everyone behind this game is ill-spirited, stupid, and more importantly for me, that they that they are all WHITE. (For them devs==white, gamers==white)
What these bloggers and tweeters did to me here is beyond mere insults: They have degraded me and have literally erased my identity as a black developer and as a black creator that just wanted to share a piece of himself with this game.
I wish that they will feel bad about it. I wish they will have the decency to apologize of their gross false assumptions and accusations. To apologize to all the people back in Quebec that have been working hard FOR YEARS to make this game to happen. But since they have no spine, no shame and no self respect they will simply ignore this post (once again denying me voice, legitimacy and identity) and will at best move on another AAA target to toss their freshly defecated shit at.
They don't deserve anyone's attention. They don't deserve our industry, our games and the dedication we put into them. They disgust me.
TL : DR Asian guy and black guy came up with the term Mechanical Apartheid 3 years ago. Black guy not happy about the SJW shit tweets and wants to call them out and expose their stupidity. Black guy is not their shield.
[I spill my drink]
That was quite amazing, and finally some panther Jensen
(A small summary)
-The style and design are superb, the amount of details makes Human Revolution look like a PS2 game and I'm not joking. And basically no piss filter either! (it's only present in areas where there are yellow lighting sources as it should be). Good textures, excellent lighting, terrible AO (hopefully we'll get some glorious HBAO+)
-The intro reminded me of HL2's a bit, also I'm pretty sure one guy said kurwa
-The non-lethal tesla gun-arm is fancy but it can knock down up to 4 people at the same time which is too much imo
-The rest is basically the same which is great, cloaking, animations for stealthy knock downs, EMPs, only there's more freedom of movement and we can perform the flying Icarus Dash a-la Dishonored's blinking
-There's derp magic wallhack but it's part of his (optional) vision that I won't be using
-Remote hacking stuff like a boss
-There's the nano-blade aug able to literally impale people and keep 'em hanging like hams. It can also explode like a powerful mine because fuck you I'm Jensinator
-Still possible to search or drag bodies
-Hacking improved and in glorious 3D
-Emphasis on multiple paths as per usual
-Weapon customization Crysis-style is sexy as hell, and various different types of bullets are present (standard, armor-piercing etc.)
-There's optional slow down mode a-la FEAR (apparently you can speed it up too)
-When facing important dialogues, how you answer can lead to being forced to play the next part of the level in a certain way (failing a conversation can alert the guards and so on)
If the whole game will keep this structure, while also having dem sexy hubs to explore, and no retarded sjw twists, we can sleep well.
So it makes me sad and angry that these ignorant people just ASSUME that everyone behind this game is ill-spirited, stupid, and more importantly for me, that they that they are all WHITE. (For them devs==white, gamers==white)
I assume the presenter was white? Kind of backs up the presumption. Maybe they should have ducked across to Ubisoft's booth and borrowed Aisha Tyler.
well part of game is set in Prague so its kurva in Czech
But the cops, do they speak czech, it sounded more like german and I though that documents are dokumenty in czech?
Anyway it looks great. My only gripes are the busy HUD and strange font but it's alpha so i hope they will clean it up.

yep cops speach czech with a little strange accent (but i wouldn't say german accent)
The cop wants papers (papíry) like ID card or passport not documents

I mean we already have this in the right bottom corner.. I seriously hope it can be turned off.
This is what I'm talking about. There is too much going on the HUD, that xp bar, the thing you have marked, mini map. But it's alpha and as I wrote it will be cleaned up.

That was in the DX:HR trailers but removed from the final game. Here it is back again..

I don't like the XP bar and maybe the long health and energy bars. Everything else is fine.

Not sure if I like the pilot's personality who seems to match Jensen quite a bit. Like they seem quite similar. They should have had someone with a somewhat opposing personality which would have made the banter between the two more interesting.
