They were taking the piss with Bulletstorm though. If Doom 4 takes itself too seriously like a lot of modern games the spirit of the franchise will be gone completely /if it's not already/.

That slow gameplay, coupled with the derptroller aiming... yep, seems like Doom to me 
But to be fair I think Doom 3 already was much slower than the original game... oh well.
Aside from that this not-Doom game seems okay-ish, might ISODEMO.

WTF is wrong with the rendering engine? Do they try to squeeze out some frames by rendering the weapon in half resolution and then some stupid upscaling? Also what is wrong with the background objects and layers? Abysmal.

Todays run and gun fps can be alrite but the thing that made doom and all those other oldies truly special back then was that they were advanced and doing things no one had seen before which actually improved gameplay. What do we have here with doom4? The same old thing. Where is my per pixel dismemberment. Various movesets and animations depending on broken/detached limbs etc. Advanced AI that does more then just stand still or rush forward. Dynamic animations resulting from kinetic force of weapon fire? Parts of flesh melting from plasmafire? I could go on but in the end all we will ever get is the same shooting gallery style gameplay time after time. But hey as long as it looks nice no one really seems to care!

Say thanks to the console assholes. As long as a game might sell well enough, why should devs invest time in those little details those derps probably won't even notice.
