Trying to stop these people by arguing with them, and fighting them just makes them realize they are doing something worth getting attention and are gaining traction, so they will keep it up.
Think Westboro church, SJW, ect ect..since when has pointing out how retarded they are acting has helped make them slow down? All it does is make them angry that people dont understand their point and try harder to push it while claiming the ones attacking them are the reason for their cause.
No where is history has ridiculing a hate group made them go "Oh we didn't realize we was so abrasive, we will tone it down". SO why would it work here? Only when they lost an audience to preach to do they run out of steam to try.
Sorry that my reply comes a bit late. I do see that we share a lot of common ground here, that the real goal of whatever actions are taken is to sway the ones who should know better. But I suppose the point our opinions diverge is regarding how one deals with the ideology pushers themselves. I agree with what you say that by ridiculing and giving negative attention to them you embolden them and make them double down on their craziness. My assertion is that it is a good thing, though. That, when triggered in just the right way, SJWs are the best PR department one could hope for.
Fanatics will not stop regardless, but, just as you have mentioned, the more 'attacked' they feel the more crazy they get (and they get REALLY crazy in their echo chambers through mutual reinforcement of their delusions) and the more they rally neutral people against themselves. Surely you remember the outrage against some episode of Game of Thrones or another, the "Feminist jazz hands" fiasco (just this weekend I overheard a group of people in a bar making fun of that), how Mcintosh's tweets get more delirious with each passing day. Hell, just skim through this thread 3/4 of the content here is based on how stupid SJWs react to minor provocations. This does more to convince people than any argument or write-up any of us could ever make!
For more examples from real life you may remember the way how Scientology overreacted to everything only rallied more people against it, and only when it took a silent PR route did the ridicule let up, and the damage to public image was irredeemable by that point. Westboro church was no different with this. They will not stop, but nobody would ever stand to defend them at this point. I wish to see the same happen to SJWs.
So to sum it up, I see the predictable character of these attention whores as one of the biggest assets by far. Any disproportionate reactions they produce go a long way in characterizing them negatively in the public eye and are usually quick and punchy, easily digestible by anyone uninformed. One could write an essay trying to explain how SJWs work and why they are fucked up, but show a handful of Mcintosh's recent tweet or the big red feminist bitch and pretty much anyone understands what is up without any need for explanation. And I do concede that one must be careful not to overdo it in a way that, like you say, would provide justification for their cause, but I think that benefits far outweigh the risks.

In my opinion I did not sympathize with the baron at all and IMO the whole debacle was his fault (his wife and daughter leaving). However, as always he's not 100% to blame here and deserves an attempt at redemption. IMO the story should have ended with his wife cheating on him and he should have just moved on from there, alone.

If you look at the subreddits that got banned, it feels like she went after a few extras just to justify the NeoFag one getting banned. There's a ton of offensive subreddits like one about death female corpses - it makes absolutely ZERO sense to leave those up and remove the NeoFag one unless you actively are biased as hell and got some interest in protecting NeoGaf - this severely smells of conflict of interest.

This reminds me of how admins over at ComicBookResources remove posts and banning users criticizing their favourite writers (who just happens to be a SJW) and then they claim to be unbiased on how they do it.
