1. Get accommodation as far as possible from 'red light', as its definitely not a pretty sight, it really ain't lol. (never had a boner once, and you will understand why, soon)
2. Take plenty of Euro's, as you will need them, oh yes, rip off city is old Amsterdam, then again, the Euro made sure of that
3. Never stay longer than a couple of days.
4. You will be amazed at the amount of bicycles, its unreal, main mode of transport there lol.
5. If you like beer, a pint was £6 last year
6. Sex Museum is good for a laugh, but it will cost you more than you think
Enjoy your stay lol

Been a few times at the dam, but in all honesty I never liked it that much. There are better city trips in Europe and a lot nicer places to visit in The Netherlands. It wasn't that far for me, so I was fine with a couple of day trips over the years.
Never been to 'de wallen' and the idea of it being a place to sightsee is weird to me. Me having to go through the same kind of neighbourhood in Antwerp was enough to get a dégoût for that kind of stuff. No matter how colourful you make it or dress it up.
They have a lot of great Museums, A nice Zoo: Artis, The channel boat trip is nice if you have some good weather, lot's of parties, pubs and clubs to go out at evening. Lot's of nice places to eat. About the costs: as expensive as any big city in the better parts of Europe.
Anywho, you'll find a lot to do so plan ahead. I can't really give specifics since trips like these are very personal, but if you twist my arm: Van Gogh museum and the Artis Zoo are the ones I'd recommend.

1. bullshit
2. rip-off in the middle of a tourist center, say it isnt so?
3. because, ALIENS...
4. you only have to be careful not to bump into the bicycles, the cyclists are ruthless and often drive too fast / close to pedestrians
5. you've been to the cheapest place, obviously
6. time |
1. Yup. The best was some 60 year old nigga mama with her beef curtains flappin in the wind, although, there ain't much of that in they tiny glass boxes.
2. Very expensive, and I ain't kidding! A MAC & chips was £15. Would have been better off chipping in the extra £3 for a third pint.
3. Because its sleazy and you will die quicker.
4. Agree.
5. Believe me, I'm Scots, it was the cheapest
6. £30 + VAT

Admission to the sex museum is €4, and it looks like you got stuck in tourist traps for food and drinks.

I've been to Amsterdam thrice last year. I like it very much.
First of all, there are alot of important Museums to see if you are into that stuff. And I like the architectural scope of some of the buildings.
They have a few very good though expensive restaurants, but absolutely recommended if you can afford it.
Night life is ok I guess, I have been to a few unremarkable but ok places. Maybe I just didnt find the right discothèques yet. Will go again.
Of course the legal Weed is a huge Bonus if you like it.
I suppose scaramonga has never been to the red-light. Many of the girls in the windows are really beautiful (in the red light anyway), though I am not someone who makes use of that service. And most men over 16 dont get boners by just looking at half-naked girls. Just saying. And of course that whole district is for tourists. I recommend making a tour with a guide through the red-light. Its funny and interesting at the same time.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The thing is I've spent like 4 hours in a bar overlooking like 12 windows once and only saw one guy enter and like 5-6 get rejected. And then there are articles claiming that some girls get up to 10k a month.

My advice to you is to leave the weed until you are back in your hotel. I lived there for a couple of years and always saw countless visitors just sitting around all day staring into space when there so many things you could be doing in the city. You can get stoned at home.
And Amsterdam might be a bit crazy too. I would advise going to another city even if just for a daytrip. Den Haap is a nice spot. If you want to get pissed and get into a fight, I would recommend the Poitin Stil - close to Den Hagg central
