But werent sausje supposed to be poor as well? Traveling to Philippine might just be something poor people does.

What does that with being poor have to do? Hotels in Manila are fucking expensive, not to mention the flight towards there since it's in the middle of a fucking ocean.
Plus i'm not exactly poor... yes i don't have big income, but i get by and can save a little, that's not being poor in my eyes.
But yeah, the Philippines is a nice destination and especially since stuff is cheap there.
Just make sure you are no obvious tourist or you WILL get ripped off
