Assuming you are running some version of windows
Right-click on your desktop - select' Properties'
Select - 'Settings'
You will see a two monitors numbered 1 and 2.
Right-click the one numbered 2 - select 'Attached'
In the drop-down menu 'Display' select your second display and adjust the settings to those supported by the monitor, for eg 1024x768
You can also click on the 'Advanced' tab and make further adjustments on your setup. It depends on your specific laptop but there should be an option where you can select which of the two displays you want to use as primary. On my ATI powered notebook I can select a keyboard shortcut to switch on the fly between the two.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
