Couldn't find a thread. Let's post stuff regarding DX12 here.

Quote:
DirectX 12: DirectX 12 enables PC developers to have a new level of power and control and is a single API developers can access across Windows devices. As shown with Fable Legends running on Unreal Engine 4, there has been a 20% improvement in performance. And as announced today, Epic is creating Unreal Tournament using Unreal Engine 4 running on DirectX 12, which sets a new bar for visual fidelity in PC gaming.

Honestly, if we want to see big advancements, they need to throw the whole idea behind direct x out, and start from scratch with blanco mind...

No, because it's still based on how currently everything code translates into image, that whole process needs to be rethought and redone.

Why? Are threads updated for movie or game sequels? Or for all Android? Or for all Windows?

I am tired of software development, there is no vision there. You write code and it needs to compile, that whole process needs to be rethought and redone. I want to sit on the couch and the code should write itself.

DX12 already beats Mantle:

Quote:
The leap in performance applies to both Mantle and DirectX 12, and we happily noted that AMD's DX12 showing actually shows a significant improvement over Mantle (its own API, remember) in every test.

As always DX11 AMD performance is lol (dat overhead):

Quote:
Looking at the results, some trends become clear. The problems with AMD's DirectX 11 driver, amplified here with a draw call specific bench, are put into sharp relief. Firstly, not only is AMD's single-thread performance slower, but the driver is not multi-core aware whatsoever. Not only is Nvidia faster, but it can scale its load over three threads. The Core i5 - the processor with the fastest single-core performance in all of these tests - is the only chip capable of breaking the 1m draw call threshold on AMD hardware, somewhat vindicating our previous contention that enthusiast-level GPUs require an Intel quad-core CPU to get the most out of them. By contrast, Nvidia gets equivalent draw call throughput on every CPU we tested.

It's a good thing AMD does not have such issues with Mantle / DX12 and newer games will thus not suffer.

Well it would be much better if we saw stronger adoption of Vulkan and open standards so MS can't control the market like it has with its proprietary bullshit.

DX12 beats mantle, DX12 came into existence because of mantle, and mantle is already discontinued and team and mantle is merged with Vulkan. Mantle wasnt next best thing, but It brought the change about. With Dx12 and Vulkan

Wrong. Mantle's being repurposed, it's not discontinued at all.

Vulkan is also heavily based on Mantle, it's not "merged".

As for DX12, I'll just leave this here:

No one blames the AMD GPUs, only their driver overhead.

The documentation for D3D12 and Mantle is so similar on some fronts that people are actually wondering if they weren't written by the same person Laughing

Suffice it to say that we have AMD to thank for this incredibly rapid shift. Only a few portions of D3D12 are as close to Mantle as the above. But for other portions they have quite obviously taken AMD's work and improved on it. That says a lot about a lot of things. Obviously AMD's work is actually really good, but also that there's a lot of pressure towards MS from the other parties. AMD, Nvidia, Oxide, DICE - they've all been key players in getting MS to do this stuff so quickly. Nvidia may not have been at the base of it, but a little birdie tells me that they're responsible for a lot of the improvements in the "face" of the API. With face I mean the way the functionality is exposed. Mantle and Vulkan are a bit more barebones than D3D12, the latter will likely still have a quicker turnaround time.

Overall though, these 3 APIs are ridiculously similar, much more so than OpenGL and D3D<12. Very similar flows in how you do certain things, with the differences mainly lying in the fact that D3D has a stronger backbone to lean on. The high level of similarity should mean good things coming to Linux (SteamOS) and OS X though (that is if Apple allow it instead of being retards). These things rely much less on driver quality (which is shit on both OS' for both Nvidia and AMD really) and where it wasn't that hard before to write separate OpenGL and D3D rendering layers, that'll be even quicker now Wink

That's far above his paygrade even when he's magically made up. Laughing

And a valuable lesson for you in life: One working somewhere doesn't make them immune from spouting nonsense or making things up. Razz

Example: I heard from someone in IBM that some of their workers prefer the black mamba dildo's. (I can even provide a picture Cool Face)
