Van Helsing was released in the right time. Diablo 3 sucked by then, and the humor, gameplay and gfx were definitely different to other action RPGs. VHII was released after D3: ROS and gameplay became dull by then. Plus, scenarios and humor wise was just not as good as the first one.
Van Helsing, when it was out, was somehow fresh take on the rotting aRPG style. If you tear the game apart -there was nothing new, but it worked well when combined together. It was unique combination of templates, the golden middle.
And VV is clearly a copycat of it. I mean, c'mon, they did not even bother to hide it. Pathetic.
It looks like bastard child of Sacred 3 and VanHelsing.

Though I am hungry for a new hack & slash / aRPG, I don't have high hopes for this one. Looks very generic, consolish, lacking any new features. Basically a bad Van Helsing clone. Wouldn't mind being proved wrong, tho
Van Hellsing called and he wanted his money for being used like that. Oh, and he told us to wait for the final part in the Van Hellsing trilogy. Shouldn't be long until it's out, he said.
Kalypso must be getting desperate. Tropico 5's milking did not worked so well, Omerta was a failure (not a complete one, though), Port Royale and Patrician are not that great and we could go on. So they are trying to emulate a successful product on the market....Waiting for Kalypso's bankrupcy, as the german companies seems to be prone to that...
Tropico 5 wasn't that bad, but yeah, one good franchise may not be enough to keep the company afloat. They could be better off if they worked on the Port Royale and Patrician franchises - I believe there's market for such games and next installments, if done right, could be successful.
I loved both Patrician and Port Royale when they were at Ascaron. But ffs, what is wrong with german/austrian companies?! They seem to make bad decisions after bad decisions....
Omerta had a lot of potential and ended up as a very bland game.
Demonicon was okayish, but never lived up to the hype.
Dungeons was a DK clone poorly executed.
Bottom line, no matter what Kalypso tried, did not achieved the success of Tropico (and 3 Tropico games are a bit too much, especially with the dumbed down Tropico 5).
Now on early-access, shouldn't be too long until some user reviews and other comments appear on how the game actually is.
(Of course there's probably going to be the usual "0.1 hours played - game sucks, have to use two buttons to play." type of reviews but that's unfortunately unavoidable.)
EDIT: Speaking of controls the game is played as a action/adventure so you use WSAD to move and the mouse to attack and the game also supports "X-Box Controllers" which I guess means any X-Input type controller.

(Was that the correct name? There's also DirectInput the older standard.)

Steam really needs to put a system in place where a user should have to reach certain progression achievements (not hard ones mind you, only ones that show you've actually played the game 20-30% through at least) before they can post a review, that would very quickly eliminate that kind of crap.
They can't really do it on "time played" alone, because tards would just idle at the menu to be able to post reviews. Then again, I guess people cheat on achievements too. But still, it'd be a start.
As for this game - I'd rather they stuck with Tropico. 5 was kind of a let-down , but I can't imagine this performing well for them.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I really liked it. Adds a different layer to action rpgs. Dodge, wall-jump, weapons, spells and bonuses not being class-specific. It lets you enjoy any weapon and spell without having to roll different characters, and that´s good for a change.
It´s more action oriented but it does a good job at it. It´s very polished by the way.
great game so far.. playing with xbox controller and Im having a blast.. finally action based rpg with fluid combat.. I prefer this over diablo style one. Cant wait till they add coop and story ofc. Definitely worth the money.
