I hope someone can help me as this is driving me nuts! I have this TV.

http://www.ebuyer.com/634811-samsung-ue40h6400-40-full-hd-led-smart-3d-tv-ue40h6400akxxu

I have a 3TB HD plugged into it, now,I can stream stuff from my PC to the TV via Servio (I did try Samsung's own app but it's bloody awful)

The problem I have is, I want to access the HD plugged into the TV via my PC. The PC is upstairs and the TV is downstairs. I am sure I had it working a while back but moved stuff about and I forget how I did it. The settings on the TV are extremely basic and offer no help. I need full read/write access to the HD without having to move it all the time (it's too far to use USB to the HD from the PC)

How would I go about doing this? I have already set up the HD as a shared drive, but the TV seems to be blocking access to it. I am probably missing something blatantly obvious but I cannot see what it is.

I do have a NAS drive but would like to get this working before I use that option

Can anyone help?

Also what are good alternatives to Servio? I want an app where I can get rid of the annoying video/music/image folders as I don't use them and only have one shared folder on my PC. I have tried Plex but did not like that either

Thanks

i ve been using tversity media server for years, tried many others along but was never quite as satisfied.
you can specify which folders to share, and on your tv you just have to navigate to folders - yoursharedfolder.
pretty quick and simple.

Cheers for the reply

It's not accessing folders/files on my PC via the TV that I am trying to do mate. As I said that's not the problem. It is accessing the HD that is plugged into the TV via my PC. Sort of the other way around you could say.

There is no setting on the TV to make media on it (or on the HD wired to it) accessible to other devices on the network, PC/Laptop etc. I have searched and searched but have found nothing. I would prefer to keep the HD wired to the TV permanently and add/delete movie files as and when I please via the PC.

i was actually talking about that part,
and besides, why dont you just connect the external hdd to your pc and then stream it over to the tv?
is there a reason the hdd has to be hooked to the tv, are you recordings stuff from the tv on it?

I have the PC upstairs and it is so bloody noisy I do not keep it on all the time. But, of course I d/l all the stuff I watch on the PC and would prefer to copy it over to the HD connected to the TV.

Also, unless I run some sort of server prog (servio etc) on my PC the TV will not find the PC. As I said the options on the Tv are extremely limited
