Each preview window you see in that screenshot is a time period / segment of the same movie.

What that screen shot is showing is using a combination of FAVC/multiple AviSynth scripts/QuEnc/HC to convert a single video file into segments and spreading the encoding process load across the cores. Once the individual segment conversions are complete, they are recombined to complete the process. The combo of these applications make the conversion quicker and makes use of a multicore system efficiently.

An example of doing a similar conversion process but less efficiently would be to convert a movie file using Nero's NeroVision. It is making use of the cores, but not as well as the first example.

Another example is to use the latest version of ConvertXtoDvd which does not utilise multicore (I have read that version 3.0 when out has been coded with multithreading in mind).

To maximise the use of the cores effectively, I would have to run three instances of ConvertXtoDvd.

Now that is brilliant optimisation!

You sure love ram and apparently so do those encoders. Wink

I have to agree. I came across FAVC and all it's little goodies quite by accident on the ConvertXtoDvd forums ironically Smile

With DDR2 memory prices being so cheap, I decided now was the best time to get 8GB. I picked up 4x2GB of OCZ PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR800C44GK) memory for £210. Which was great value for money imho Smile

The RAM consumption is more due to how Vista's superfetch manages memory. It certainly eats it like candy Very Happy

Great set of shots! It's interesting to see the difference between each application.

... is silly like quad core cpu.

You are joking right?

Not at all. I've been using a core 2 duo for a while now.

I did a lot of thing, making rar pack, uncompressing rar pack, making xvid or mpeg. Using tons of programs in the same times.

And I nerver saw both of core running at 100% in the same time

So what is the point to have multiple cores on the same cpu if the cores are never used at 100%? (or should I say, use at least at more than 51%)

Quad core is purely useless, to not say dualcore too. Just like sly is a joke, A TOTAL joke.
If we compare P4 with P4-d running at the same frequency, we can't see any performance boots. Same for the AMD.

Dualcore was supposed to get good in the future, they told us, the programmer will make their games/app to run faster on dualcore. We still wait to see this. I did my research about programing for dual-core and I have found out there IS NO programing for dual-core.

I guess on a quad-core, the cpu will use each core at 25% max Rolling Eyes
Just like a dual-core use each core at 50% max.
Rocket science?

100% + 100% = 200%
Just like 1 core + 1 core = 2 core

No here the formula

50% + 50% = 100%
core1 + core2 = dualcore

Here the formula for quadcore

25% + 25% + 25% +25% = 100%
core1 + core2 + core3 + core4= quadcore

Arrow

Genius.
