I never said anything about handling/uberdrift fest or stupid AI.
I'm only talking visuals, and it's not just raindrops. It's everything. You feeling content with buying hardware that's 3 times more expensive than a crapbox and settling with mediocre visuals?
Really, i dont get it, people should be annoyed that the graphics are this bad on a previously announced visually mind-blowing pc exclusive racing game.

Maybe some day we will finally have a racing game that provide the best of both of these.
Project CARS should have being finished early 2014. (if I remember correctly)
But because it is a small team behind it and because no great publisher would have accepted to fund an "unpopular" racing simulation game anymore, here we are ... one year late.
On the other side you have tons of beautiful (semi-)arcade racing games with almost unlimited funds and devteams, they can even afford to be platform exclusives ...
But they just can't provide a real and nice feeling behind a wheel, unfortunately.
Serious Rig: CPU : Ryzen7 9800X3D | GC : NVIDIA RTX 5080 FE | Mobo : MSI MPG Carbon X870E | RAM : 64GB DDR5 TridentZ5 Neo 6000 | Case : Fractal Define 7 XL | Cooler : Fractal Celcius S28 Prisma | PSU : Corsair RX1000 Shift | Monitor : LG Oled C2 42" 4K/G-Sync
Mobile Rig : Asus ROG751 JT | i7-4720HQ | GTX 970m | 16GB DDR3 \ G-Sync
Just for the LUL: PS4 Pro / Nintendo Switch / Wii U
$team, Orishit, Upay, PSN : Athlonic
Well, it's not that they don't have funds for development. The problem I see is them putting those into the wrong direction. Instead of engine that offers great sense of speed with good visuals, they threw all their effort into car models. Only late in development they focused more on tracks and actual engine, and it shows. Granted, in the end, it was all those screens from early development that funded the project, and cars do look amazing. But in the end, they matter absolutely nothing when player is locked behind the wheel, staring at same cardboard trees that people made fun of in Gran Turismo 5 back in 2010.
you cant compare pcars with driveshit! PERIOD! nobody cares about 30fps cinematic arcade experience on ps4, game is crap. even with the latest update, and thats why they still dont released the ps plus version cause nobody would buy that pos after playing the "demo"

Lots of people bought it for the visuals which are amazing compared to pcars which looks nothing impressive at all.
If all you care is gameplay, then yeah, but had this discussion ages ago. I was talking strictly to the people who were praising pcars from a graphical pov.
because ps4 cant handle both (visuals + decent physics). and pcars looks awesome, those rain effects in driveclub are just too much. you played pcars personally or you just judging because of some vids?
saw drive club in my nephew ps4 , 5/10 , PC played one of the demos, asetto corsa was a letdown, i hope that PC have a good carrer mode, or im buying A XBOX forza in 2015

I didn't see any lighting changes in DC though how come? Looking at videos in youtube reveals the cardboard vegetation on dc aswell and I think that the new grass and trees+their lighting on pcars look better but the rain effects on dc interior look much nicer than in pcars! But that is the problem:dc looks better in two places and worse in two other places than pcars. But sitting in the car and racing around a corner in pcars while trying to win a single position against another driver just feels absolutely satisfying and I really don't mind the mediocre rain rendering at that moment because the physics feel right, the car heavy and the road feedback realistic. If I crash in pcars I always know why because the physics are not total bogus.
Nice of you all to bring gameplay into graphics discussion about a game whose biggest selling point are (were) graphics.
Russ80 has a valid point. Game swallowed a lot of peoples money for its development, it's system requirements are staggering, jet it honestly doesn't look all that good. And I really don't see a point in being so defensive over it. When the final product comes, it may well be the finest semi-simulation there is, I honestly doubt it, but it is only then that it will be judged by it's gameplay. Until then I see nothing wrong in bashing it's looks.
No, pCars biggest selling point is *not* the graphics. Not at all. That would be DCs biggest selling point. Its graphics, the "realistic clouds" and the dynamic rain. The only person getting defensive is Russ, who doesn't waste a single second in slating pCars and praising DC and when people point out DCs many failings, he gets defensive and starts attacking pCars' visuals.
And this is from someone without a vested interest in *either* game.
Oh and I still think pCars lighting looks better, more realistic. DC looks phenomenal as a game, but it just doesn't look "real" like pCars does. The scenery and water effects are nice in DC and, personally, I like the driving model since I'm an arcade fan but to state that pCars' selling point is graphics and how terrible it is in comparison to DC is just silly.
A mate of mine just gave me Assetto Corsa...hows that game compared to this (realism wise that is..I guess they arent the same kind of racing)
Assetto Corsa is just a bit more sim than pcars is, a bit more barebone but ready to have a nice mod community.
All in all I like both games, just that I prefer Pcars for the bit more content it comes with. I also find it a little bit easier than Assetto Corsa, but just a little
I'll be playing both games, just waiting for more content for AC and also... I don't own a steering wheel atm and AC is less forgiving for that.
AC and Pcars have a lot more in common than all the other recent race games out there. More focused on the physics than anything else.

Oh, just not bothering with this part of the forum, makes me not interested in a game? I always was a sim racer, and a project like this, made me follow it from the start. I luckily never saw enough in it to fund it, but I still have some hopes for it.
And yes, it's biggest selling point were graphics. And you honestly don't need to go far to discover that. Just open random page in this thread and you'll see half the posts drooling over it's looks. I always found it amusing, so blame me for trying to defend one that don't see it's amazing appearance.

Huh? No, silly, I was talking about myself. I have no vested interest in either game, so my opinions about them come from a - thoroughly rare - standpoint of utter impartiality. I'm not defending Game A because I like it more than Game B. If I had a PS4, I'd get DC, just like I'll get pCars when that comes out

What, you mean like every single article, thread, post, comment, review, preview, video and GIF ever made about DriveClub? Ever? Is that what you mean?
Nobody talks about the performance. Because it's shit (personal opinion, 30fps racers are shit)
Nobody talks about the handling. Because it's shit (aggregated opinion based on anyone that plays sims. I prefer the handling since I like Ridge Racer )
Nobody talks about the multiplayer. Because it's shit. (two months later the damned thing is only just now becoming playable online.)
Everybody talks about the visuals. Because they're great. (personal opinion, they're some of the nicest game visuals I've seen)
pCars was always touted as having fantastic looking cars, but *above* that, in every review I've seen, are people discussing the track legitimacy, the handling, the physics, the sense of speed, the performance.

Same here. AC is far more "sim"y than pCars, and it has a very basic and weak campaign system. I'm waiting for the full release of pCars because it's easier to control (especially on a joypad) and has a nice GT-esque expanded campaign.
Oh and gokarts. Gotta have me some karts! I spent so many hours playing GT5 just with karts!

Idk, DC looks better than PCars in every single aspect except the car models. DC has dynamic ToD as well (day-night). Also weather relative to the actual cloud simulation (it can rain lightly then some huge clouds pop from behind the mountain and bam proper raindstorm starts).
The vegetation is way worse in pcars as seen in every video, rocks there isn't really any contest (pcars is just a texture on top of something else whereas in pcars you have actual geometry).
As for the rain there's no contest. All the stuff is particle based, whereas in pcars it's just some shitty 2d sprites.
Water drops reflect/refract (as can be seen in zoomed in pics), react to the changes in wind / direction, collide / form into bigger drops/puddles etc etc + trails.
Also react to lighting (check the night time rain video).
DC also has PBR (physically based rendering which is what makes AC:U look so next-genish compared to other games, something that is being used in most new .. "exclusive" titles).
Here's a re-review of the latest patch :
Asked my gf which doesn't really game (except TF2 if you call that a game) just to see an unbiased opinion which looks more real and no surprise..
Said pcars looks like a game, while stuff i showed her from DC she had trouble figuring out if it was real or not. You lot can deny it all you want but funny thing is most of you don't even have the rigs to play PCars maxed out yet defend it like it's the second coming of christ (you know who you are, and no i don't mean you pump).
russ plz crawl back to your peasant section would you please?
This must be some kind of joke
So because i'm not in total denial i'm a derpstation user? I don't even have a ps4 and i can almost bet my rig demolishes yours.
Yeah you crawl back to the peasant section, it's right there.. under complete denial.
Quote:
"yet defend it like it's the second coming of christ"
Kind of like you with DC, perhaps?[/quote]
I don't like PC gamers in denial, i also don't care about gameplay in racing games sabin as you know. This is strictly talking graphics and i'm amused at how many people like to lie to themselves and they can't even max out PCars anyway.. just because they can't accept the fact that consoles have a few good looking games in some genres better than anything on PC.

So wait, you don't even HAVE a PS4 and yet you can't stop rabidly defending a game you don't even have? All this time I assumed you were at least operating from a position of strength, having actually OWNED the game you so vehemently protect and show extreme bias towards.

Don't need to play a game to appreciate its visuals.
lol, cmon russ. i have a ps4 (honestly atm i dont know why ) and a decent rig. i know what im talking about since i got the dc disc from a friend and played it. and im playing pcars since the very early alpha. you sir own none of those, so please shut the fuck up. you cant judge a game by silly youtube videos
and i can tell you BOTH of those games look different when in "real" motion -> you playing it
