That guys thread (Corax82) also got closed and deleted that he made on the steam forums. Mostly due to people just spamming it and being obnoxious.
But yeah, it's quite shit that they'd try and pull the plug on his review.

What I find most scary is that some people seemingly support the release of unfinished games.

Quote:
All I hear is wah wah wah.
Literally no game that comes out is going to be clean of bugs and issues. They get patched, they get better, get over it.
And of course they would capitalize on the holiday season, any smart company should and would do that.
So many gamers are so damn pissy nowadays, jesus.

Quote:
This person who bought the game obviously did not read: " DoubleBear Productions plans to continue supporting Dead State post-release with patches and content updates, so please make sure to use our forums to report bugs and provide feedback."

I can totally understand why they'd remove the comment, it makes them seem like they said they'd release a game bug free. They never said that at all...again they said the COMPLETE OPPOSITE.
I'd understand if they said it was going to perfect when they released it, but even now-a-days plenty of games get released with tons of bugs. The Sims 4 just game out for $60 and was so buggy it could hardly be played for me. Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, and I'm sure there's more.
I personally really like Dead State and I really like DeadBear as a company. I urge anyone that is on the fence to reconsider.

That's not really a feat to be honest. Razz
Not only that, I can't finish the game because it crashes on all the last fights. >.<

@Surray

Fanscum, fanscum everywhere. I don't even call them fanboys any more, they're old enough to know better.

Buggy and lacking content in alpha? > "It's just an alpha! OMG, stop being so entitled and impatient! Urgh, gamers these days"
Buggy and lacking content in beta? > "It's just a beta! OMG, stop being so entitled and impatient! Urgh, gamers these days"
Buggy and lacking content on 1.0/Final release? > "The devs said they'll support it post-release with patches and updates! Stop being so entitled and impatient! Urgh, gamers these days"

I can't speak for the "final" version since I've not tried it yet, but the build from the "First 7 Days" release was... massively meh. The combat was meh, the exploration was meh, the visuals were meh. It felt barren to be honest, which was a goddamn shame since I was really looking forward to this Sad

Lol, yeah that's how it is...

From what I gathered it seems that many bugs were reported ages ago but never fixed and now the game was released... and the devs pledged post release support which means they plan to fix those bugs and it's not actually complete, right?
If it was complete there would be no reason to announce that you'll finish it later.

The whole point of early access is to not actually release it until it's finished, and you can do that because you get money from sales before it's out, so you can work on it longer.

Now they just gave in to greed and switched from EA to release for no other reason than OMG CHRISTMAS WE WANT MONEY

Kerbal Space Program isn't doing that shit.... DoubleFine did that shit with SpaceBase and they got burned for it, as they should.

Now we got the devs playing the victim (post from game designers blog):
http://i.imgur.com/g6qKfFx.jpg

I'm not saying this is a bad game or whatever, but all they had to do was stay in early access, keep working on it, and it could have been great, they could have gained consumer trust and gained many more sales in the long run.

And the bugs that didn't get fixed yet won't until January when the devs are back. So people who bought this over the holidays and run into game-breaking bugs, tough shit.
I fucking hate that we celebrate mediocrity these days when it comes to game development.

This kind of stuff really makes me burn, where the hell do they get off blaming the customer and whingeing "it's only a $30 game" - so what? He paid the price that was asked, now you're saying it's too low to have an opinion? He was good enough for you to take his money but now you can't take his opinion because he happens to dislike the way you've handled the release?

The worst thing is, by locking his review, banning the reviewer, deleting the thread (where all the nasty vitriolic fanscum were raging and screaming and insulting, but funnily enough only the OP was banned) they've basically just enacted the Streisand Effect. Now people are coming to the forum and pledging not to buy, or urging others not to buy, or just plain trolling and creating a bad atmosphere. Attempting to censor a negative review from a CUSTOMER who was UNHAPPY with the state of release, they've exponentially expanded their negative image and brought more trouble on themselves.

Foolish. Absolutely fucking foolish and THIS could easily be the downfall of the game, despite how good it may well end up being with a bit more TLC.

Yes, same. It's not a terrible game whatsoever but it is a very buggy one and it's clearly not finished, same with Elite:SCANDALOUS, that's not finished either and both would have benefited from some extended dev time.. just for finetuning and content additions. Instead Dead State is now 1.0 and we have to wait for fixes "later" and Elite:SCANDALOUS is 1.0 and we have to *pay* for content later. Great stuff.

.... still, Dead State is the best zombie "survivathon" of its kind, so at least there's that.

Every single review on the front page of Steam is negative now. The overall result is "Mostly Positive" but scrolling down shows all the negative reviews. Mostly made over the last four days, but MANY made weeks prior so you can't even blame today's bad press for all of it.

I genuinely feel sorry for the devs now, this is a hell of shitstorm and if TB gets wind of it then it's only going to get worse Sad

I don't feel sorry for them. Don't fuck with the customer even if they're wrong. Don't delete their posts (unless they break rules) and don't delete their reviews.
PizdaBear can go and fuck themselves for this kind of behaviour.
I was going to wait to write a review to give them a chance but fuck that, after this I posted one and it wasn't a positive one.

Oh well. Shit has truly hit the fan now, TwatBiscuit and his army of fanatics are about to make DoubleBear's life that much less pleasurable. This is what happens when you release a buggy product and then flag reviews calling it such and complaining about the developer's actions. Good luck DoubleBear, you're going to need it. Oh and it won't be long before people start claiming "female game dev at DoubleBear harassed by angry manchilds" If indeed it hasn't already *sigh*

Sadly I think despite the flagging, the devs are going to take a lot more flak than they deserve over this. Especially now that TotalBiscuit is involved.

You heard that from one of the mods on their forums. Also, it's not unlikely since it's xmas and they had a 33% sale (even though they atated 3 weeks ago they wouldn't have any diacounts this year).

This is a company that had to be bailed out not only by Kickstarter, but also by Iron Tower Studios. Double Bear should be doing everything they can to keep a squeaky clean reputation, not pulling this kind of shit.

Silly, silly Bears...they got greedy Sad
They saw those juicy Santa Steam Sales and said "fuck it, gonna slap a 1.0 on top of the beta, hopefully nobody notices it! huehuehue"
"And bad reviews? lol, scratch 'em!"

As if that shitty attitude has ever worked before xD

I'm conflicted because while I think the game is pretty darn good even in its non-finished dead state, what these guys did was utterly wrong, transparency is all that matters and they fucked that up to the point of not return. They had it coming really.
Paradoxically though, this whole drama could be the incentive for them to finally release some useful patches and finish the game. Razz Laughing

There's been a lot of drama on the forum and an official response from DoubleBear, supposedly it *wasn't* DoubleBear that flagged the review, it was a Steam community moderator - not DB Moderator but overall community one - but the flag has since been removed.

We have since learned (this morning) that the review was flagged by someone on the dev team, based on Steam guidelines regarding off-topic reviews - their actions are currently under internal review. We apologize for any confusion or misinformation relating to this, and have been piecing this together (a tough thing to do over the holidays - we're not exactly "in the office")

What they said on the steam forums. So someone on the dev team saw it and flagged it, do CM's count into that?

March Update! Dead State v.1.0.0.280 Changelog

14 MARCH - CORGIPEDE

Woo, the update is finally here! As promised, this is a content-heavy patch with some popularly requested features. Let’s talk about the big highlights first, then we’ll get the rest of the details down below.

Added Iron Man mode! A true test of survival! All saves are disabled except for a daily autosave and a resume point when you quit the game. Whatever happens, happened. No take-backs.
See our design notes below the changelog about separating Iron Man mode from difficulty settings and player infection.
Added new undead type: crawlers! Seems some people got pretty messed up before they turned. These mangled dead dudes and ladies have a nasty Trip Attack, so keep one eye on the ground at all times.
Added movement and activity to the Shelter! Everyone in the Shelter now moves around to different locations when assigned to work. If you forget where to look for someone, remember to check the Shelter summary screen with the ‘H’ hotkey or double-check the job board.
Added custom portrait editor! You can now create your own unique portrait by selecting hair color, hair style, eye color, facial hair, tattoo, and more. We’ve also added a couple nifty features we felt were missing from the typical portrait creator: loading a previous portrait to work from, and undoing changes you’ve made.
Added looting of KO’ed characters! Want to knock somebody down, steal their stuff, and leave them for the undead to finish off? Now you can!
Changes to Parisa!:
Added new discussion topic options in Shelter
Added new dialogue
Added new character perk choice
See our design notes below the changelog about the changes to Parisa’s storyline.
Changed noise-activated spawn behavior. Adjusted likelihood of spawning an undead at different noise levels, and undead spawns from noise become more likely over time.
Balanced the distribution of items required for upgrades.
Added five new levels.
Improved grenade and molotov code.
Added Fortify skill on Riot Shield. Now you can end your turn early for a +10 AC boost to your defence.
Fixed several combat AI related exploits. Enemies will now chase you around corners and through doors, and combat will no longer end if line of sight is broken temporarily.
Improved undead mobbing behavior, added a mob bonus to undead grapple attack when in groups.
Fixed human AI to make KO’ed enemies the lowest priority target for humans.
Fixed an issue where humans-turned-undead did not drop weapons.
Fixed an issue where Doug sometimes disappeared for a while before waking up.
Fixed an issue with Shelter inventory ignoring maximum weight.
Fixed a bug that allowed characters to equip stacks of items from Shelter inventory.
Fixed exploit to bring dead characters back to life in combat.
Fixed an issue where Survival bonus was lost on area map when travelling from a map other than the shelter.
Fixed a bug with Unity perk.
Fixed cases of recruiting dead allies again.
Fixed cases of being unable to attack neutral NPCs.
Added appropriate SFX to car gates and roll-down doors.
Fixed issue where Chemist perk cancelled Unity perk.
Fixed some bugs related to Team Effort and Unity.
Fixed issue where Pumped and Aimed status were not applied if the job carried over into the next day.
Improved some maps.
Adjusted nailgun stats.

So Iron Man Mode is here, yay! However, it’s different than what we originally had planned. We’ve decided to split up Iron Man, Hardcore difficulty, and Player Infection rather than have the latter two be grouped into Iron Man’. You can see all three of these options when you start a new game now, although Hardcore and Player Infection aren’t implemented yet and will be in a future update. The reason we decided to separate these into three options on a new game was that we wanted to allow players to choose their own experience. Hardcore and Player Infection require a ton more internal testing before we release them into the wild, thus why they’re not in the current patch. Furthermore, we are planning a pretty big balance pass and AI adjustments for a future Patch, so the way Hardcore difficulty works will be greatly influenced by those changes. In the meantime, we hope you’ll start up a new Iron Man mode and challenge your skills!

We added in a bit more resolution for Parisa's storyline - which was never intended to be an ending - plus some more zesty character development. If you'd like to know more about this particular aspect of the game, here's a link to where it lives on the forums (and beware, it contains SPOILERS!): Parisa's Storyline Design Notes

Alright, that covers it - let us know how you like the update!

A 400MB patch just downloaded for this and it seems like The Big One©;

http://steamcommunity.com/games/239840/announcements/detail/191745769341064695

Quote:
We’ve spent a couple of months of solid development time making Dead State stronger, smarter, and faster, and we’re happy to say that the results are fantastic. We’ve brought new life - or is it unlife? - to every aspect of the game. This isn’t just Dead State anymore - this is Dead State: Reanimated! DS:R isn’t just an update - it’s our definitive enhanced edition with brand-new content, full of improvements and fixes requested by you, our community!

The Highlights
Major overhaul of combat balance! Core combat systems have been thoroughly reworked to take advantage of all the data and feedback we’ve gathered over the months since Dead State’s original release. Ranged weapons, melee weapons, armor, special attacks, ally / PC healing, and more have been reworked and carefully tested to create an engaging and challenging combat experience. Even the core combat system has been tweaked so that AC is calculated before damage reduction; this change makes combat more consistent and more fair.

Smarter AI! Medic, Guard, Grenadier, Sniper, and more - New AI behaviors and schemas exist for human enemies, making them more interesting and more challenging to fight! Enemies will notice your presence more quickly and fully utilize all of their tactical options, thrown weapons, and special attacks.
New PC Infection option on New Game menu! Create a new game with PC Infection checked and your character will be as susceptible to infection as your allies are. Carefully manage your antibiotics and change your combat strategies to ensure your own survival!
Hardcore Mode! In Hardcore mode combat becomes more dangerous, allies consume more resources and heal more slowly, and Morale is harder to keep up. Turn on Hardcore, Iron Man, and PC Infection for the ultimate challenge!
Alarms! That’s right - we’ve added alarms to buildings in several areas. Red, blinking lights warn you that there’s an active alarm on a building. Use your Science skill to deactivate an alarm and prevent a looting distraction from becoming a noisy attraction!
New areas and random encounters! Several new levels and random encounters have been added. Make sure to keep an eye out for the Chemical Plant, an area with a unique twist…
New combat sounds and animations! We’ve added new special attack, reloading, and healing animations and sounds. Special attacks feel smoother and more impactful now!
Stability improvements! We’ve rooted out every crash and progress blocking bug to make sure you have the smoothest possible experience. Several popularly requested usability improvements have been added, such as friendly fire conformation, looting piled up bodies, and an option to toggle Live Shelter movement on and off.
Pathfinding improvements! Both allies and the undead have received major pathfinding adjustments that will reduce lag some people have experienced as well as make movement more consistent and natural.

There's a lot more info in the link too Smile

The game has its flaws but it does have some nice ideas. Always thought with a bit more polish it would have been quite nice.

Hopefully this big patch/rebalances fixes some of the bigger issues.

I couldn't agree more Steelone. Razz It's a very rough gem with some obvious limitations and a basic writing, but the core gameplay works well and is very enjoyable.
It may not be a ground-breaking game (far from it), but it's definitely worth playing. I'm still in the middle of my old playthrough from last year, as usual I had to put it on hold and wait for the dose of patches. Which is the standard procedure these days, so it's all good!

Played a bit tonight, patch seems to have improved some of the bigger annoyances.

One of the biggest fixes is that zombies take their turns quickly now, and the game doesn't seem to freeze up whilst they work out what to do.
