so after a new gpu, ssd and psu i need some new ram now.
i got an old asus p7p55d with an i5 750 which supports up to 16 gb DDR3 1600/2133(O.C.)/1333/1066 and if i upgrade later this year to a new board i want to continue using the new ram.
i'm not really into overclocking, so i assume 1600 should be enough for my current and my future board/cpu.
the prices are almost the same for 1600/1866/2133 so if my current board supports it i could buy 2133 ram but i'm so confused about this "(O.C.)" thing. kinda scared it will not run properly on my current board even if it says it's supported with "(O.C.)".
also it says max 1.65 volt otherwise it will damage my cpu. right now i got 1.5v and i think it's better to stay with that. most 2133 ram seem to use 1.65 volt so i don't no what to do now.
buy 1600 ram with better timings and lower volt or 2133 ram which will be "better" but maybe not compatible on my current board.
right now i got two at choice which i think should be good. also never had any problems with g-skill... please tell me your opinion.
sorry for being such a noob hope someone will help me with this

Ram don't matter at all. At all for cpu over clocking.
Jus get the cheapest with low radiators so they won't obscure cpu cooling.

well ok... then i go with ddr3 1600 i think. it's not really cheaper but lower volt and also better timings.
just don't want to buy slow shit. really want to use it on my future 1150 board too without have to buy new ram again.
if my current board wouldn't be that old i just would buy 2133 ram because it will run anyway on a 1150 board in the future. but i'm just too scared it won't run onb my current and i have to send it back.

I actually found that RAM stability plays a big role when it comes to overclocking especially on newer boards. This only applies if you overclock via BCLK
I personally would go with the 2133 kit. If you aren't sure whether the RAM will work correctly or not, consult your motherboard manual. Every mobo manual has whats called a "qualified vendors list" which will list all the RAM kits that are fully compatible with the board

i did that of course but the board is almost 5 years old. there are only like 1 or 2 compatible 2133 ram moduls. they can't add any ram in the manual which was produced after the board... so i guess this has nothing to mean.
aww man i'm so confused. i just want it to run well on my current board and also on my future 1150 board without any problems and without changing to much on volt and timings and stuff.
guess i just have to find 2133 ram with 1.5 volt and good timings and test it. if it won't work buy some 1600 ram. me so stupid

stop fussing, ram is bullshit if you are not overclocking for the highest possible oc you can get out of your cpu then you dont need fancy shit, just get something you know that will be in limits of what u want your cpu to do and you are done.
This is almost as bad as needing a fancy case and shit tons of fans on it so the fucking thing can fly itself around the room.
If you got money to waste then just get the top end of everything and you wont have to think at all. Otherwise stop flapping about it
read the manual, look at what range the board takes and pick the highest, being 5yr old board this is fucking moot.
