Indeed, the new video looks great . I really hope they make it, sadly indiegogo isn't well known and nobody is funding this :<
Needs to put it on kickstarter and get a few high profile people to recommend it. $40k would be no problem at all.
I couldn't agree more...a KS campaign with good marketing (since it's nonexistent at the moment, nobody is talking about the game) and that goal would be reached in 2-3 days.
They've reached 40k goal, now all we can do is wait mid 2014.... but i need it now !
Too bad they wont reach single stretch goal (that dlc with new content...) Anyway its good news
Your insults will do nothing to blunt the agonies of your demise.
The thing is - it becomes boring really quick because shitty random gen. There is no interesting content, after a while you start to recognize all the reused patterns and assets quickly and it bores your eye.
Tried the alpha for a while earlier this evening, I liked what I saw. The visuals are detailed (in full 2d, but definitely well made), there's a great atmosphere with quality sound effects, and exploration with small puzzles/survival elements/crafting and even some trading involved.
The inventory is a bit clunky at the moment, but I guess it's going to be improved later on. The "story" seems damn creepy, which is good; the level design is interesting too but it's obviously bound to become a tad repetitive in the long run, since darkness prevails and the assets are all alike. It's got potential for sure, but I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just wait for the final version
We've got a extra quick update for you. We'd like to write more about the launch itself and our impressions

''Rejoice, mortals! Alpha 2 is here, just in time for Halloween! With it, changes big and small!
This update focuses mainly on a huge rewrite of some of our back-end systems, meaning they are now more optimized, less buggy and allow for some cool stuff to happen.
Highlights:
Brand new world
We basically rewrote the whole world generation system. The main thing you will notice is that the biomes are now grouped together, and getting through to the next biome requires a trip through a “gate” location. Borders are much more interesting now, and aren’t only impenetrable walls.
This system allows for a lot of new cool stuff. We’re tingling in excitement just thinking of the possibilities in future updates! For now, the benefits of this approach are mostly visible through better pacing (easier in the beginning, harder at the end of chapter 1), more rewarding exploration, more interesting navigation, and a better sense of progression.
Even though we optimized the generation script quite a lot, the new world is now about 50% larger than the previous one, and in result creating a new one takes more or less the same amount of time. This will of course be optimized in the future. Some parts of the procedural generation system are turned off for now to avoid some bugs.
Modified combat
Combat in Darkwood is supposed to be slow, tactical, but lethal. It may be unintuitive at first, as you can’t spam attacks like in every other game with this perspective, but it is a lot of fun when you get used to it. We worked on it in this update to make it more responsive, but also made the Secondary Attack and Dodge skills available right from the start.
Optimizations and fixes
There are a ton of optimizations to pretty much everything. Less stuttering, better performance! We also fixed most of the reported bugs (including the dreaded Mac crash and disappearing Wolfman!). However, a lot of new features were added, which still need to be polished.
And also:
- New hideouts! Nights are different based on the hideout you are sleeping in.
- New content to be found in the wilderness.
- Wood is more plentiful, but to make use of it, you need to convert it to planks with the new Saw object.
- New shader for trees.
- Friend of the Forest skill has been nerfed. Animals will be less aggressive, instead of befriending you.
- Rebalances to loot and enemies.
- And a lot of other smaller (or secret) changes!
We are pleased how these changes add to the game, and hope you feel the same! This is hopefully the last BIG rewrite of any of the systems, and we can return to more frequent updates.
We would also like to thank our awesome testers for their hard work on hunting bugs! <3''
Anyone playing this? I gave it a go, since the main character reminds me of Caleb from Blood.....
Nice and all but:
Collecting and I end up where I end up in every other game:
The workbench:
You have 999 wood, 24 nail. Requires: 25 nail
You have 50 gasoline, 3 batteries. Requires: 4 batteries.
You have 40 rope 10 matchstick. Requires: 41 ropes.
You have 2 alcohol, 4 wire. Requires: 3 alcohol
Can't craft shit.
Also mushroom for perks? Okay the 1st tier was okay. But the 2nd one requires 150 essence. I found so far 2-3 mushrooms, that means 30 essence total. It will be ages to reach the next upgrade.
Yep, reached the same conclusion. I hope crafting dies really soon and it's replaced by the old system of finding real rewards (not junk) through exploration. Crafting feels like work, it's that simple.
The new Zelda suffers from the same problem. I need 34 fangs of those lizard fuckers, 3 anuses of demons and whatever to upgrade an armor. What I want is travel through mountains, dungeons, seas and find the armor in the deepest pit of hell.
LOL, the devs uploaded the latest version of the game to the 'Bay, along with this:
Hi! This torrent was brought to you by the developers of Darkwood - Acid Wizard Studio.
This is the latest version of Darkwood at the time of writing this (1.0 hotfix 3). Completely DRM-free. There's no catch, no added pirate hats for characters or anything like that.
We have just one request: if you like Darkwood and want us to continue making games, consider buying it in the future, maybe on a sale, through Steam, GOG or Humble Store. But please, please, don't buy it through any key reselling site. By doing that, you're just feeding the cancer that is leeching off this industry.
This torrent comes with no installer, so you can just run it from the mounted image, but we recommend copying the contents to your disk and running it from there.

Not sure if trolling, but if they aren't, it's really cool on their part.

Haha yeah, they're actually serious about it. People were going to yarr the game either way, so might as well use that to throw in some publicity and earn goodwill (plus a future purchase if the game is good)
The No Time To Explain devs did the same, though they added pirate hats on the characters (which is why Acid Wizard specifically mentioned the no hat thing here ).
