Im looking to get my son either a ps2 or xbox for his birthday. But not sure which is better/easier/cheaper to mod to take burned games. I myself am a PC game freak..

Also hes turning 9 years old, and needs games he can handle (although he does love trying to play my PC games, so non-childish games, but nothing so indepth that the plot will loose him, or be boring to him) so trying to base decision on that also.

Ive tried looking around for help, but nothing really to base a decision on. as most are aimed to moding one you already own. or Biased towards one from the get go.

As far as modding the console, im fairly sure I can handle that part, Have a degree in Electronics, and work as a PC tech. So if the mod is techincal in nature, thats not a problem, so dont base your suggestion on tech needed to mod. Just looking for the one thats the best to mod. Or has the most options once modded, easist to start games (basing that off my old PS that needed a boot disk, and lid mod, and replace disks...since my 9 year old will be doing it. want to make loading games for him as easy as possible. sure i could teach him to use bootdisks...but more ways for him to mess up also)

OR if anyone can compare the 2 options as they would be modded, that would be great also
Any input on the situation would be great!

Well I have both the Xbox and a PS2. The PS2 is very very hard to mod. About 18 wires if I remember correctly. Another downside to the ps2 is that you have to use the disks. The Xbox on the otherhand is very easy to mod if you can solder. It took me less than an hour to install the chip and put in a new hard drive. Once the dashboard is on the drive you can put the game into the drive to play it or install the game to the hard drive from the disk or if you network it to a pc. You can also use the network to play backups online using various easy to use software.

Go for the XBOX if you want a awesome Media Center as well as a game console. Go for the PS2 if it's all about games...

If your son likes RPGs or 3D platforms, you need the PS2. That and the PS2 have Resident Evil 4, Soul Calibur III and Shadow of the Colossus; they are all awesome.

The picture quality and gfx of the XBOX is a lot better though, and I think the game selection will satisfy you...

Thanks guys!
think xbox it is

only one other thing, ive heard xbox's have different versions, so modding them is different depending on the version, much like direct TV cards. H,HU, ect cards (depending on when you get your box) are different to mod.
Is it this way, or are they all pretty much the same to mod, just a variation of each other?

get it premodded... costs a bit more... saves you alot of trouble...

I´d recommend that too.

Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

xbox all the way for easly modding hmmm for kids I think the PS2 because it has alot more platform games that I'd think a 9 year old would love...like Sly, Ratchet and Clank and so on.

If your kids are into stuff like eyetoy and the dancing/singing games then PS2 is great as well plus it has alot of A+ exclusive titles for older gamers - personally I use my Xbox more but think there both great gaming platforms in their own right.

I always think it depends on what system has the games YOU want to play.

Both have there good and bad points.

in repsonse to your modding question all xboxs are suppourted with current softmods. UXE and NDURE. As for the chipping side of things you'd have to ask someone who is up on the mod chip scene. Best advice i can give you is to read the xbox-scene forums and decide the route which best suits yourself.

yes i agree.. i have a 6 yr old son and he has both xbox and ps2.. the ps2 is never really turned on anymore..

its always xbox.. plus the fact you can burn multiple games on dvd.. so i tend to do him themed disks.. ie: crash bandicoot games on one dvd.. that sort of thing

Another great feature of the xbox is the fact that you can use it as a emulator machine.

SNES, N64 , PS1, it's all possible with a xbox.
And those SNES games are great for the little ones.
