toady it noticed there was a bird in my ducks cage. so i went in to get it out. it was only a young bird.
first it kept flying away and i had no chance of getting closer, the bird was also to stupid to fly out the door which i left open, but after the bird got tired of beeing chased i could get closer.
now here is where the problem starts, first i grab it and i've got its tail thinking its okay to use my other hand to grab the bird, the bird flys away and i'm left with half its tailfeathers. i go to it again only to grab its wing and almost breaking it. it also lost all feathers on that wing.
but luckely i got it out, the bird went and sat on the ground for a half hour before eventually flying away that was a relief knowing that i hadnt broken its wing cause in a other birds case some years ago i tried to capture one with a net and broke one of its feet Sad

yes, found it on our lawn when it was just hatched, motherless Crying or Very sad all alone in the cold. so we took it in and it stayed with us ever since. its a big cage btw. i can stand in it, it has a pond, a cage out of the rain, something thats higher so it can fly on it.
i love my duck (untill christmas )

I know it doesnt really matter now but...ussually if you cup your hand around his wings (fingers wrapped on his belly) very gently, the bird will understand he cannot use them, and stop trying. Thats how you pick up a pet bird, and they generally get the idea and just calm down. Unfortunatly I think a wild bird would just turn his head around and bite you.

I dont think any of that was neccesary though, you said he was too dumb to fly out, I think he was just too scared, if you left him I bet he woulda just flew out on his own.

well the point is i cant leave the door open and leave otherwise my duck might go outside aswell. i have no problem picking up my duck but the bird i had to remove from his cage was a wild one and it kept flying around everywhere so first i tried to make that it would fly out the door.

@jenni you can give a duuck everything , just like chickens

@TheDiggler with all the damn media hype, but now we have to keep every bird inside their cages and in some areas we have to make sure no wild bird can poop in the cage so we have to put a plastic or something on top of it

in case your wondering this is my duck

when it was a couple of days old

just took this one
