Ontopic if you dont like WoW dont play it simple , but there are alot of people that still like the game

1 of those is me , I dont care what any other guy thinks if he dont like it , blizzard stands for quality on games , the expansion for diablo 2 was also great and so was the expansion of starcraft and all warcraft games .

Personaly I cant wait to go through the dark portal , kinda cool that remind me of playing the expansion of warcraft 2 : beyond the dark portal.

I would say that raising the level-limit is a bit sucky for the players, as now everybody will have to buy this if they don't want to fall behind.
Yeah, it is a smart profit-wise move from blizzard, but I think it kind of fucks players that only play a little or people that don't want to pay more than they already do for this game.

Dont forget there are awesome games like Guild Wars, Diablo 2 etc which exist without monthly fee, and they also have expensive (but not for customers) servers, free patches, free support etc.
That what i hate in games with subscribtion fees - you pay money for the right to play game you already bought at full price.
80$ for a game you can only play for 3 months (50$ + 15$ + 15$) ??
Thats fuckin' crazy price!! Mad

True, I can also see why people get addicted to this game, each individual has its own taste in games and everything else in life Razz Like some people actuly join scientology from there own free will! Smile

Like I said Blizzard sure knows how to "milk the cow", sadly Blizzard is not what it used to be back in the starcraft, warcraft1+2 days. Another reason why so many left, and made ie. guild wars, like KrutojPoc said, has no monthly fee, download servers, good support, no lame netcode(full servers etc) better graphics and so on.

but what can ya do lol...thou i can see why they are doing this, they are releasing a expansion probalby just to get people hyped again, instead of releasing in a patch that not alot of people who doesn't play WoW anymore would hear about.

Dude wtf. Of course they will do an expansion. Let me tell you about the MMO-world. They earn alot from monthly fees but they also have to have servers running, have game-masters, have accounting for the fees coming in, do patches, etc etc. Sure they earn money but it's in no way a pure-profit business. Expansions usually cost what, 30$ which is nothing for the content you get. I played WoW a good while ago, got to lvl 60, was among the top ten on my server and i found it a very good PvE game but got very disappointed at the PvP-elements and decided to quit. The fact that they havent released an expansion in this amount of time tells me something. It tells me that they have been working hard on improving their game and keeping the customers happy. Opposed to say BF2 which still has bugs but decide to instead of concentrating on fixing those problems work on releasing an expansion as quick as possible JUST to milk that cash cow. A thing that Blizzard never did. WoW was released (roughly) eight months ago and BF2 was released (again roughly) three months ago.

You should just do some research before ever speaking again CLDragon because of what i've seen of you so far you just come of as a i-think-i-know-it-all-kid.

have you watched the trailer? as a private server GM i probably went everywhere on the WoW map, half the stuff in that expansion trailer i've already been to. (the warp gates, the twisting red twril in that weird area with trees >.>) this leads me to the conclusion that the content was already there when they released the game, they just add in the race and monsters then give the expansion buyer a "unlock" to the new area.

i disagree with your point saying MMORPGs need expansions to keep the servers up etc. GW probably doesn't get even half of Blizz's profit because it's not a p2p game, and they've improved the game so much since release compared to the WoW dev team. and their server was down i think once or twice since release, as apose to WoW...

blizzard has 1.5 million suscribers, 111 servers. that means there is an average of 13,513 players each server. they are each paying say, 10 dollars each month (i think it was 12 but im not sure), so the income for each server should be 135,130 per month. take 35k from there, and you get a godly server. if all the GMs gets paid 35 (way over higher than what it should be lol) then they get around 2000 dollars for working for a week at around 8-9 hrs each day. how many GMs does a server need? definitly not 50, so take what ever money you get left from that, then multiply by 100, pay the devs, then you get blizz's monthly profit. which would be pretty high i might add since the costs i used where the highest possible Very Happy.

have i done my research? yes, i've done this a long time ago out of curiousity of what blizz make each year, i just didn't remember the exact numbers when i posted it but i know blizz is making alot fo money.

if i missed anything feel free to add.

ops... well i did that calculation when WoW's suscribers reached 1.5 mil, lol so just times the profit by 2.5

i never said p2p sucks, i said if you are paying for each month, you should have the right to recieve updates and new contents. one thing that struck me the most is that (like i said in my last post) almost everything in the trailer i've seen already because i was a gm for a private server and i was able to teleport everywhere, and that was at the begining of this year. which makes me think that Blizz perposly left out a race and some extra content just for this expansion to beef up their wallets. (maybe they also perposely made horde so ugly so people would buy this expansion to play horde with an attractive avatar, but thats pushing it lol)

blizz dev team added honour system, a few dungeons, and battle grounds, but isn't that what most of us expected them to do before the game was released? i mean, so WoW players paid an year of suscription just to get content promised at release, and now that blizzard is finaly releasing a major addon to content which the player wasn't expecting, they have to pay extra for it. just doesn't seem right to me.

It's not about "liking to pay". Sure i would love MMORPGs to be free of charge but that aint going to happen.

I played DAOC for more than three years and payed for double accounts most of that time. Considering i payed for 6 months every time i think it cost me about 18 bucks a month for both of those accounts. That's roughly ten bucks less than half the price of a new retail game. And since i didnt buy any other games in that time im pretty happy with it.

And so ok lets do a little math, say you actually pay for one month at a time for one year. That comes up to (i dont know what the exact price is now but i think it's like 12$) 144$ which is equal to:
1. 3 retail-games or
2. 3 bar-nights or
3. 140 liters of gasoline (swedish price) or
4. 70 liters of Coca Cola
etc etc

My point is, it's not alot of money.

The whole purpose of this discussion is kind of lame anyways, if you dont like pay-to-play-games then dont play them. Cause if you've missed it MMORPGs is pretty much the only way for developers to get a safe profit-margin with PC-games these days.

GW is a peice of shit and people hack it daily. Sony will NOT make one of its future MM's free. The business model is no monthly payment but they will release an expansion every two months, and you will be able to decide if you want to buy them. Keep in mind, every content and character update will be in these expansions.

The game has childish elements, yes. The game didn't create the genre, no. I mean, did Ford create the fucking wheel? No, they didn't, but they used it to make the first card mass produced car. Give me a fucking break. They didn't re-invent the wheel, they just gave it some oil. I've played nearly every MMORPG available and HANDS DOWN World Of Warcraft is the best second generation MM. Everquest of course being up there with Asheron's Call in my books for first (majority) generation games.

Expansion looks AWESOME, i'm almost level 60 so I still have tons of high end content to get into already.

What MMORPG thread could be complete without tons of kids crying about pay to play because their parents won't let them use the credit card on the internet.

lol you never played GW have you? hacking it daily? gime a break. there had been probalbly a few well kown exploits and that was back in the beta, Arenanet patched it withing 10-30 minutes since it was found. try any GW forum, there hasn't been any reports of hack because the it takes such a short time to patch a hack that no one even knows about the hack being used. as apose to games like WoW where they have to take the servers down to patch it.

no content update? umm go read the patch notes on Guildwars.com, they provided a patch every wednesday for i think 2 months since release, and kept on making more to make the game better.they also treat their costumers well by releasing new contents for free (the new funace area) and tweak the PvP system so that it's more fair. which makes me doubt if you even played GW.

the game as childish elements? want explain more? it was a pure PvP game, thats why most hardcore MMORPG players doesn't like it because of the weak PvE aspect of the game.

i think in the future, as server maintanece price goes down, and more games have the streaming abilities of GW, we will see a lower p2p cost, or none.

p2p is a great idea. but only if the dev team use the money accordingly. it makes me wonder how WoW servers can lag considering how much money they get each month. i would rather pay 30 bucks for a game each month if the developers spent the money accordingly than to play a game for free with no updates. but you dont see that good kind of dev team/company often.

WoW is just a repeat game.
At lvl 1: Firts quest: "Go there kill that monster" after that quest is done you get another, "Go collect 10 appels" and after that; "Go kill Mr Blahablaha and collet letter"

At lvl 60: "Go to kill boss "Insert evil name here" and collect the golden blaaa" after that; "Go kill blaablaa"..

Thats WoW in a nutshell...

That's because quests just help you get to lvl 60 faster, and i cant possible understand what you want more from WoW quests. There are number of differnt style fun and boring quests. But it doesnt matter, because real gameplay starts when you are lvl 60: pvp, raiding. Raiding is so intense, player skill based and hardcore like never before in any MMORPG, you cant imagine the feeling of slaying a big ass raid boss with 40 people raid after MANY MANY tries and adrenaline rush while you are near killing it. WoW rocks.

Firstly is discussing only for fanboys? no... good
Secondly this tread is about WoW not mmorpg, I certanly dont mind p2p IF the game is worth it... like, lets say EvE Online ie.

Glottis wrote:

No your wrong imo, WoW cost money, so if u dont play it, it feels like money out the window, so even if dont like the game that much, you are either forced to play it or quit your account... weee great fun!. Of course this aplies to all p2p games, but with the lag of service, like download servers(wich SHOULD ATLEAST be there), downtime and support(dont even get me started on the unbalanced classes). Like you can see other p2p games has, you get ZERO value for your monthly fee, again IMO. Of course if your are a bilionare who has no relantionship to economy this does not apply, but then I doubt you´ll be surfing these boards.

GW on the other hand, you can play when ever you feel like it, there is no presure, even if the game is not the best in the world, you still dont walk around thinking about your getting screwed if you dont play, since there are no such thing as the PERFECT GAME imo.

And please explain to me again how GW is a "wannabe ripoff"? GW wants to be a ripoff? of what? That just dont make sence dude...

that must explain why so many people quit after they got the lvl 60. i mean, wouldn't going into the same dungeon over and over again become boring after playing it for 2 months?

GW wasn't a MMORPG, it was only publisized as one because no MMORPG ever before was so focused on PvP, and in order to provide fair PvP, they had to get rid of some PvE aspects of MMORPGs, which IMO, excludes GW from the MMORPG catagory.

GW's end game content in PvP is alot better than WoW's, granted it's PvE side isn't as strong, but if you have never experienced high end PvP action in GW, then you shouldn't, IMO, say you've played the game. the guild im in was ranked 7th a few weeks ago and the experience is great. everyone on the team knew exactly what role they are supose to play, Warrior spikes are co-odinated on Vent in order to work. we worked as a team. in GW you HAVE to work as a team because they limite the number of players, as appose to other triditional MMORPGs where you can just tip the battle to you favour by adding a few more players in your party and zerg the enemy, GW provides a fair starting grounds for each team. which means you actualy have to use your brain to win.

then again you might not even read my post because i played in a Prvate server Razz i quit WoW(official) when i got bored with the game, but then realize how fun GM commands can be so i got the GM position of a private server, i was able to turn myself into a zergling and kill other ppl Very Happy

If you played the game for more 20 minutes you'd notice quest variety.

Yea? Tell me a quest when you do something other than; collect, kill or deliver something.
