Only topic I could think that fits, but its a bit odd without the context...

Anyway, I was debating/arguing/discussing (depending on who you ask) the open carry law in some US states with a gun loving friend of mine, Id say gun nut friend of mine but he swears hes totally normal. (I myself think him owning more guns than lightbulbs in his house isn't normal behavior)

We was arguing about him fighting to carrying a fully loaded ar-15 around on his back like hes in a zombie apoc movie in public. While I argued that its well within his 'rights' to it doesn't mean he has to to make a statement by using extremes.

Then it hit me, hes a gun loving, semi-homophobic, "'merica!" type. So I made the comparison that would make sense to him and his views:
--
You know how you can 'deal with' gays long as they're not flaunting it, as you put it..but they have those gay parades you can't stand, where they goto the extreme having fun, displaying how they feel repressed, waving banana hammocks around on floats and dancing to its raining men?
Thats how YOU look to the rest of us. You are the gun supporters version of the oiled up gay guy in a thong air humping slowly the guy in front of him on a parade float being overly upfront and in your face about being gay and proud. Doing it because its his middle finger to the world going "YOU CAN'T TELL ME I CANT! IM PROUD OF IT!".
Has that EVER convinced you that gays are normal to you, or to accept them more? probably the opposite effect right from your viewpoint?
Thats you, with your AR-15, buying a newspaper and hotdog in the gas station..Overly extreme, offensive to some, and cocky doing it "because you're legally allowed to" not because you thought you should or needed to.
You carrying a small handgun in a holster is the same as 2 guys holding hands at a table over coffee..you with an AR-15 strapped to your back is like 2 guys shirtless dry humping in the middle of the road.
First might make some uncomfortable, but they aren't trying to offend anyone. the second is them doing it for the shock value and defeating the purpose of trying to show what's 'normal'..Which one makes you "dislike the gays" more as you so delicately put it?
--

Anyway just my rant..because after all that I got "but Im not gay, Im just wanting freedom from repression of our natural law given rights"...he missed the entire point I think.

I'm a 2nd Amendment advocate but your comparison is quite good. Personally, I think it's a bit extreme to want to open carry an AR-15.

I do have my CHL out of Texas, however, and think a conceal carry is perfectly acceptable.

I've had arguments with people like that. Very frustrating.

good comparison
except people with guns haven't been socially and legally persecuted, beaten and killed as a group just for having guns
but yea, how it reads to outsiders is pretty much the same
