dont think he needs strength or vitality for wearing armor, just whatever stat that increases his carry weight which is endurance i think.

Better to skip sorcery and go with miracles. Fits the tanky playstyle better. So he'll need-
STR to 30
ATTUNE to 25
Faith to 30
vigor to 30
Vital and endurance are equally don't have a set number you should hit. But you'll need them both every once in a while. So depending on how heavy of the gear you are wearing early game, start putting points into both every time you level up. Both should be around 20 at least before you finish leveling str and faith.
Early game you won't need that much faith or attune, so try getting to 30 str first to do decent damage with the mace. Then I'll prioritize faith to 30, while making sure you have enough attune for miracles you want to equip. Once you hit 30 on those, you can start dumping into vigor for HP. All of that is just 70 - 80 levels. Probably just past the half way point of the game.
However the problem is since we don't put points into adapt, and we don't put points into attune early, you'll need a greatshield very soon as your agility is shit. The i-frames are not very reliable and forgiving.
That's not too bad. You'll end up with little weight or stamina. But you can offset that with cloranthy, dragon rings. Solider's are decent as well.
As a miracle tank, you might not need that good of a physical shield once you have all your essential stats. So you could go for Rebel's shields as well. The damage you take from physical can be easily healed with all those miracles. Restoration ring and steel protection can help as well.
By the time you have a decent miracle tank going, then you can start thinking about having sorcery as well. Otherwise your character will be too spread out. The game just becomes harder than it needs to be.

Are more or less pure faith builds viable after all the nerfs? What about mage builds? Although magic was kinda screwed up even before major faith nerfs with exception of some spells.

I need help , i want to restart DS2 but i cannot decide if i wanna go with the Cleric or the Sorcerer , I played DS1 for a while with a sorcerer and that kinda sucked after a while , it had OP spells and what not but kinda bored me , so i went with a tank build instead and i loved it.
I think the cleric is the middle ground between sorcery and melee character but i'm not sure about this tho i never actually went and try and see if that's a thing.
So my question is sorcery is actually viable in PVE ? is fun etc ? Or the cleric is better , considering i'm kind of terrible at dodging and i prefer to use my shield instead ?
I know there's respec and i can change my mind basically at any time but i wanna see what do you guys think
out of sig inspiration for the moment

second out of 3. last one comes out end of september
btw, Dark Souls II Crown of the Old Iron King-CODEX (standalone with every update and DLC)
saves from the last codex release (the one including the 1st dlc) should probably work, but can anyone confirm this?

they do, except the crack doesn't unlock the dlc btw
you have to open codex.ini and change UnlockAllDlc=0 to 1 in addition to the license files.

Ditto. Saving my NG+ playthrough for later this year, there's too much in my backlog anyway.

Does it regenerate?
If so.
Spoiler: |
Stab the fugly red "statue" things outside of his room - there's a bonfire nearby too - when you have that specific item - there's a few of those you can find - which also kills his regenerative abilities and gives more parts of that particular soul, out of 13 in total to get the full soul for trading for a spell or boss item.
|
He can only regenerate when near one of those things so you can spare a few "items" by just removing the ones on either side instead of removing all.
EDIT: Of course if you've already noticed this then yeah he goes pretty crazy a while into the fight, fucker is pretty fast even before that.
(The other bosses weren't that easy either but you do have AI summons ready plus other players I'd imagine if you play the legit version online.)

yeah, i took care of the regeneration long before i tried my luck with the boss...the game more or less trains you to stab every single one of those fuckers ASAP anyway
the problem with summons in this boss fight (as well as elana and sinh in the sunken king dlc) is that in contrast to the main game, where summons equals dead boss, now the boss's health/defense gets scaled up - while at the same time, the npc summons do fuck all damage and just get raped, leaving me alone with a harder nut to crack. and like in the first dlc, 2 summons are actually worse than one, since the fume knight takes care of them both easily with his AOE and is exponentially tougher to beat in the end. got him lower (to around 25%) going solo.
the first phase i've got down almost perfectly...but the problem is the neverending barrage of attacks in the second half of the fight. can't block all of it (well, gyrms greatshield might if it's just fire, but the stamina loss is too severe anyway) and while i know how to abuse the i-frames to dodge his buffed greatsword, it somehow manages to find my ass sooner or later. 100% melee build @ just below 70% load btw, which worked just fine against elana, sinh and the last bunch of main game bosses. i'm thinking about switching to a faith build with low equip load so i can whack him with a mixture of lightning defenders GS, lightning spears (especially if he has a resist hole there like most enemies) and good fast rolls.

Wait, is there another Smelter Demon? *flips table*
I'll try to clear the remaining two NG+ areas and reach the new DLC part tomorrow, hoping that my rolling skills are still as effective as they used to be weeks ago. Otherwise, we're all fucking then.

The IGN reviewer said he died over 100 times to one of the bosses, I bet it's the one you guys are talking about.

Good to know that DLCs are quality ones, I was afraid they went ape shit with announcing that 3 DLC pack (along with that shitty bonus weapons).
For guys who finished 1st and 2nd one - how long does it take to beat? Obviously its subjective and depends on your playstyle, but +/-, few hours each?

Hmm I like to play souls games very slow and enjoy every aspect of lore, gameplay and locations so its not bad, guess it will be 10-15h for all the 3DLCs when the final one will be out.
Another question - 1st dlc required that you have ashen heart from that dragon location? What are the requirements to access the 2nd dlc?

You don't need the ashen heart. What you need will be added to your inventory once the game detected the DLC are installed and activated.
