It's about goddamn time. Great news! I'm sick of these bullshit ads touting f2p games as "free" when they're anything but, the whole thing is a scam and I'm glad the ASA has upheld the complaint and forced EA to be less underhanded with their statements.

Yeah but isn't the ruling just that they have to add tiny fine print (that nobody ever reads) to the bottom of the ad? Basically amounts to sweet fuck all.

Yeah. No backlash whatsoever, just that they have to be clearer on their ads. Won't hurt them a single bit. Sad

Will be interesting to see what their next move will be though. They will either keep it up and just be more honest about what colossal shits they are, or they would actually become borderline decent to their costumers...

Who am I kidding. Of course they will keep on being scumbag wastes of space. Laughing

Well the shareholders would vote to have all the execs fired if they didn't continuously find new and inventive ways to part people from their cash.

people, this game was ahead of its time, 30 years in the future when all gaming has gone freemium, this game would be the one-eyed king in the land of the blind.

It's just PR talk for stockholders to explain EA failure.

Didn't they already have a hubbub about Origin having undisclosed monitoring stuff in it?

Keep it up EA, maybe you can get the award again next year. Missing it for one year is no reason to quit.

Can't find it in the article but it would be interesting to see if that's before or after the program settings for this have been disabled.
(A bug in a previous Origin version left it always running and you were unable to disable it but that should be fixed since a while ago, I'm using the beta version but that shouldn't matter.)

In particular "Share system interaction data." since that seems to be what the client is doing in those images and it's on by default. (I usually go into the settings and configure the program to be more minimalistic by disabling stuff like this, can't do anything about Steam or Battle.Net however and I have no idea how UPlay handles data.*)

(*Steam should prompt when it wants to share hardware specifications so it's pretty open about it but there's no settings to outright disable the feature and Battle.Net usually always runs that survey program when you start it or start a Blizzard game using the client but like Steam it might just be system specs.)

Oh dear, I had completely missed that one. I think it's probably in the top 3 of the most pathetic excuses that I've ever had the chance to read..in this thread!
And the worst thing is, it's not over. People once again fell for it and made it profitable. They will ask for more, and EA will deliver more innovation, it's inevitable..

I blame the users who buy DLCs and UT packs. EA is just trying to make money..just like other companies.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

EA Will Charge For Gas In Need For Speed: No Limits As Part Of Its Ongoing Effort To Make Games As Mundane And Annoying As Real Life

It's a known paradox. If you are too smart, you start looking like a complete idiot from some point on. That's what happened to EA - they are so progressive they sometimes seem backwards.

But I am sure they will hire someone to trim down these needless innovations, just like Microsoft did with Ballmer, or Nokia with Elop (or was it the same guy in disguise?)

Shit, after seeing this I start to understand why certain devs don't care about PC. Or it may be just because EA games are shit and PC Master Race don't care about them? Very Happy

I don't know, PC is at a respectable ~200 million in revenue throughout the entire fiscal year although it doesn't change much but still shows a 4% growth.
(The "next-gen" consoles just came out thus the massive growth percentage.)

The consoles are doing well too but they bundled the X360 / PS3 and XBO / PS4 so the figure is higher than PC by itself.

Of course it's unknown how much of the PC profits is in PC and how much is in Browser so that might be something to note.

I also wonder what's 'Other'. Any ideas? Do they make any board games, by any chance?
