I bet you think Fallout3 and Oblivion was totally different too then?
It's obvious these type of games, from the same developer will be extremely similar. They're not changing a winning formula, just the setting and with some additional tweaks to gameplay. In RDR you could collect herbs which i will agree is unique, yet it hardly makes it a whole new game type. FO3 had the pause-combat, but if i had played Oblivion or Skyrim i could probably figure out both FO3 and Oblivion was made by Bethesda, even without looking. It would be impossible to not notice it's really the same game underneath but with new settings, unless you're a complete retard and very easily fooled "because it's a whole new setting, so it must be completely different core gameplay!!"
You're free to share your arguments though, still havent seen one

I just started playing Saints Row 2 again a few weeks ago and it is still fantastic. Just the right balance of goofiness so it's fun to play but serious enough that it still has some remote amount of structure throughout the game. Even the side activities have intros to provide some context (as goofy as they may be).
SR3 and SR4 were made for people with ADHD, pure and simple. Completely disjointed-feeling quest system with random activities thrown in without any proper introduction or setting. Couldn't finish the third and could barely stand playing the 4th. They need to reboot the series and make it feel like a solid game again, instead of the random collection of minigames it's become.
But good lord is SR2 badly optimized. It barely maintains 30 (the unpatched version is locked at 32, and the patched version is unlocked but stutters when driving fast) on my pc:
i5 2500k @ 4.5
680 GTX
8 gb ram
It's still fun to play but it's a shame it was such a shitty port. I can rarely stand 30 fps but the fact that I'm willing to put up with it says a lot about this game.

Oh yeah because every single game that was made each had their own new engine developed every time it got a sequel or whatever.
Collecting herbs is the only thing you mention from RDR being different Sorry this is just a hypocritical response, not gonna bother. It's not like you had valid arguments either, but now demanding them from me while you made a statement you still have to prove is really funny

maybe there are other cars and special things that can only be unlocked by doing certain stuff other than paying for them?

If you take it that superficially, then sure, same game. But then 80% of all shooters between 1997 and 2002 are exactly the same, since most of them used the Q2 engine, so you know, same game. Most shooters made in the last 10 years, all UE3, just with different settings.
Sorry, but no
RDR is much more story driven than any GTA game up to and including 4 (don't know about 5, I only tested that for less than 30 minutes and got annoyed with the wiggly sticks already and decided to wait for the inevitable PC version). Not even Vice City is that driven by its story. Beyond that, the freedom given in the GTA games (even 4) is much more about doing silly stuff, whereas RDR is much more down to earth - and that extends to the side activities. Shooting obviously also is much more of a focal point in RDR. And that's not even considering the setting as a whole.
I'll agree that it's obvious in some ways that the same developer is behind it, because there are plenty of similarities. But to say they're the same game is just silly. There's enough differences to clearly set them apart; if the difference between RDR and GTA isn't enough for you, I can't imagine what you must think of most games. You'll make Sabin, Leo and myself look like really positive rays of pure sunlight

The core gameplay is absolutely identical, that's all i'm saying, you're saying they can't even be compared and that's just beyond stupid, sorry.
If a company has done a successful game and then a follow up using the same engine and same game type (open world, shooter, whatever) then yes, i can asure you that those 2 games will feel very similar and people can most likely say (without even looking at who the developer was) that it's from the same company. I used Bethesda as an example, i think 99% of all people will agree that FO is _very_ similar to TES (even beyond the shitty engine and bugs), and i bet most would agree RDR is GTA with horses
It would be very strange and even wrong to not compare GTA and RDR when discussing GTA (or TES and FO) because its done by the same people and it's share the exact same core mechanics, and also the same engine (which in turn makes it feel even more familiar in many ways). The presentation itself is identical apart that RDR might be slightly more story focused, though hardly exceptionally so.

come on guys, this is different to gta iv. since they need to do a proper port to get the xone and ps4 version running flawlessly it should be easy for them to port those to pc, since its now the same architecture etc

Why are you guys even comparing the Retail Distribution Review to GTA games, it doesn't make any sense. I've checked all the PC games available on the market, and that acronym gave me zero results, so I'm guessing it's just a typo, right?
Spoiler: | right? |
In all seriousness, I agree about VC being the one with the best balance of charm, class, craziness and interesting characters. The whole package was so damn good.
And The Ballad of Gay Tony is probably right there as well for me, sharing the top (I know that Paul agrees with me here ). The other GTA games felt inferior for one reason or another, but still better than any of the clones released later, in my opinion.
