It doesn't mather, both those brands are excellent.
I have the old nec ND-1300A and I haven't had a single bad burn ever.
Stay away from the more unknown brands.

But remember, even with one of those two burners, it wont burn properly if the media suck.

Stay away from Pioneer. Go for Sony or Plextor.

I've went through so many Pioneers it's a joke.

Pioneer a joke? Yeah right. I know plenty of people with pioneer burners and they perform exceptional.
Pioneer makes some of the best burners, and their media support is top notch. You just got INCREDIBLE unlucky.

Never suggest something based on your own preferences, suggest something based on facts. And the fact here is that pioneer does make very good burners.

My Pioneer 108 is the best piece of PC equipment i have ever bought. After over a years worth of burning, and boy has it burnt a lot of discs for xbox,ps2 and pc and dvd players, it has yet to burn a coaster.

It even makes dvd+r media work on my xbox's samsung drive, something which is not supposed to work.

I always buy the cheapest dvd+r media now as they always work on everything without exeception. Friends PS2's/xboxes/dvdplayers, all faultlessly.

But maybe I got lucky.

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

I went from a Sony to a Plextor and it was the worse choice I have ever made. My Plextor is a POS. I thought I was getting a good "Sheep Burner" but it won't even bypass certain copy protections. It was completely shutting down my computer when I made backups of my DVD's from Shrink and DVD Decryptor. It also has turned on by default a rip speed reduser that limits the noise level the drive produces when reading discs. You can overcome this by holding down on the eject button until the green light on the drive flashes three times, then the tray will open and you can rip discs at full speed.

My sony burner must of been a lemon, it would burn discs with a blank track on the back of them. If you look at the back of a burned DVD, you will notice a burn mark where the burner writes data to the disc. In the middle somewhere it would skip a small section and render the backup useless.

I've managed to fix most of the problems with my Plextor and I use a DVD reader to rip my backups. All in all it burns discs better than the sony..IMO

Can anyone verify here that the Pioneer DVR-110 can burn Maxell 8x DVD+R (the ones made in japan) on a V7 PS2? Please tell me success rate on playing the games also. I've been using IO Magic and I've gotten bad results. Someone told me they had a Pioneer DVR-106 and it wouldnt burn Maxell.

Maxell dvd+r x8 speed work fine on my Pioneer 108 for a ver 4 and ver 10 PS2 here

...they seem a real quailty disc to me, they are a slighty thinner/lighter disc than normal and the dye is a nice deep purple colour with no spotting and fading.
