the controller is good, although a very slight (if any) improvement over x360 one.
the dual shock 4 however is a huge improvement over dual shock 3.
while last gen i liked 360 controller alot more than ds3, now ds4 is my new favourite overall and the one i use for pc gaming too.
you should try it somewhere before purchase though, if you havent already.
while i find the ds4 to be of perfect size, very ergonomical, with a nice feedback from all the buttons, the xbone controller is also good.
its a matter of preference in the end.
The $64,000 question though; how's the dpad on the XBONE? I heard it was much improved.. but egh... it would have to be a world shattering improvement considering how monumentally broken that original thing is.
and the convenient thing is, you can use it on ps4, pc and ps3 too
(although there are a very few ps3 games that dont support it, gta 5 weirdly being one of them )

meh. No need for new controller and its not even wireless on pc.
Old good 360 controller is good enough on pc

I don't care about wireless controllers, I actually prefer wired as that way I know there's never going to be any battery or latency issues Wireless controllers are useful for the sofa, not the desk .. IMOIMOIMO.

How is the support for ds4 on PC? 360 I can just plug in most games and play with no hassle (I assume same is true for xbone). ds4 I know doesn't work natively with Dark Souls 2 and I would imagine others.

You need a wrapper to use it at the moment, which translates the DS4 into xinput for native use on all xinput-related games -- including Dark Souls 2. Personally I'm still waiting for something like MIJ/BetterDS3 so that I can switch between dinput and xinput on the fly
... well, that and the for the controller to drop below $30

Same here, with PC gaming I prefer all wired peripherals. This also goes for my mouse, keyboard, and game controllers as well. Less hassle for me to always swap batteries/charge.
Really liking the feel of this xbone controller, the analogs feel like they take less force to move around, and the d-pad is definitely an improvement.

when you install those drivers ... no i don't own a xbox ONE ... yet.. but had a friend that was crazy enough to buy it ... then listen to me about ps4 ... he is a alan wake fan so ... when remedy went derp he went derp ... improved somewhat yes, but still no comparison to ds4/ds3 one.
You must've had an amazing D-pad on your X360 controller, or a unusually bad XB1 controller, because I have eight X360 controllers myself, and played with many of friends' X360 controllers and they're all nothing, absolutely nothing, against my XB1 controllers D-pad. I play a lot of Killer Instinct on the XB1 (in which you do a lot of quick D-pad movements for moves and combos), and I ONLY use the D-pad, and I really like it. Feels way, way better than the X360 one. I also happen to have a PS4, and I don't think it's any better really. Both are pretty good IMO.

Besides fighting games, when else are you really going to rely on an amazing d-pad?
I understand using it to navigate menu's and inventories and such....but....when else?
Anything made before, and during, the 32bit era or on later generation 2D/RPGs. I use my PS3 controller (and prior to that, 360 controller) more for emulators and emulation than I do for *any* native game. Same with indie titles, 2D RPGs, 2D/2.5D platformers, etc.. all are played with the dpad. You cannot, just cannot, get the same level of comfort and control in a 2D plane when using an analogue stick, just cannot.
Take the recent Abyss Odyssey for instance, it's a 2.5D game played on a 2D playing field... and the goddamn asshole developers locked the movement (movement which is binary; left/right/up/down, that's it) to the analogue stick. It's hideous. It feels bad, responds poorly, is too floaty and just overall sucks. Switching it to the dpad (via driver tweaking) and suddenly it's much better, more responsive, better reacting, tighter.
So I've been using the new xbox one controller with my pc for a few weeks now and it's pretty nice. D-Pad is definitely improved 100%, weight, size, are all good. The new analog sticks are great, and the improved triggers are also a very nice touch.
All in all, I would recommend it, but if you are happy with your 360 controller, go ahead and keep it

Thanks for the feedback guys, ideally I'd still prefer a PS4 controller *but* I'd take either right now, to be honest. Waiting for an enormous price drop or a decent "preowned" price, but I could do with replacing my PS3 pad.

I used to plus 1 the hell out of this...but for whatever reason lately, I've been doing a lot better in old games using the analog. I feel so dirty

so wait a second please confirm this one more time for me before i will order it.
xbox one wireless controller works with old xbox 360 wireless adapter on a pc?
i will buy the controller anyway for fifa 15 but if this is true i will order the old wireless adapter too.

nope, they improved it, but didnt fix completely.
it still doesnt feel proper and the position is shit anyway, being a gamer since the late 80s, with all controlers having the dpad in pretty much the same place, i cant get used to that awkward dpad position.

No, they never fixed it. At all. Improved, as Zeel said, but never fixed. The "Dpad Edition" was only marginally better than the original - and since the original is hands down the very worst dpad ever put on a controller, bar none, then it's not much of an improvement.
