Funny enough it's actually raining here, with thunder and lightning.

I downloaded Whistleblower and the Penumbra trilogy. Should be an interesting night.

I never bother playing anything significant when it's lightning outside. You never know when the power will go out.

+1

I definitely don't like to play horror titles during the daylight. It spoils the experience. Very Happy

Barely a prequel. More like a parallel line.

But yeah, this is an example of a good DLC.

Guess I have to use TexMod and "fix" that noise filter since it's pretty annoying, though that will also kill it under camera mode unfortunately.

EDIT: Oh and GeDoSaTo works with nearly every UE3 game so I'm using that to downsample from 3840x2400, took a few attempts but now it works flawlessly.
(Sadly as with other UE3 games I can't get the new borderless option to work correctly.)

EDIT: And the noise filter is removed.
http://www2.zippyshare.com/v/68444028/file.html
(Thankfully TexMod does work with GeDoSaTo)

I also tried gedosato but it doesn't work. First I thought sweetfx was interfering but it just doesn't work either way and the borderless option doesn't work for me. Is it necessary in order to get gedosato to work? Could use a little help with this, please. Smile

TexMod plugin so you just needs the TexMod program, I did not use GeDoSaTo for that. Smile
(Also borderless won't work with UE3 titles, they'll display a error message about unsupported functions.)

https://code.google.com/p/texmod/downloads/list - Texmod.zip, the original release and not the newer (But somewhat unstable.) UMOD versions.

I believe the Penumbra games were also a bit more puzzle heavy, in the first game you could even abuse the physics to fight back (Although clumsily.) but then they changed it so throwing and such had no effect on the various creatures.

Amnesia is a bit in-between perhaps, lots of exploration and a few puzzles blocking further progress and I don't remember any actual puzzles in Outlast but there are these notes to discover detailing backstory events.

I found the Amnesia/Penumbra games to be a bit more frightening personally whereas here it's a bit more towards jump scares or gore horror but it has it's moments too.
(It would seem that angry mostly naked men can be terrifying in certain situations.)

I knew I should have edited the quote. Smile

I was referring to downsampling with gedosato, not texmod. I think I made all the necessary settings:

- 4k render w/h (or any 16:9 res)
- 1080p which is my native res
- added OLGame, OLGame_R, OutlastLauncher on the whitelist
- ran gedosato as admin
- and I'm using the x32 exe

But it doesn't work.

Oh yeah I had problems initially too with how after the main menu logos the display resets to the original resolution.

So let's solve that.

Go to this folder:
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\My Games\Outlast\OLGame\Config

Open OLEngine.ini

Find these two:

CustomResX=0
CustomResY=0

Change them to what you downsample to in Gedosato:

CustomResX=3840
CustomResY=2400

A bit above those values find bUseCustomResolution=False and change it to bUseCustomResolution=True

You are done with OLEngine.ini unless you want to do any further tweaks.

Open OLSystemSettings.ini

Find these:

ResX=1920
ResY=1200 (Will of course be set to what resolution you are using.)

Change them too:

ResX=3840
ResY=2400

If you need to then tweak other things in the file as well and then right click and go into the properties menu for that file and make it "read only" (write protected) to prevent the game from reloading the file at boot.

This should work 100% just remember to have GeDoSaTo running and activated.
(With OLGame added to the whitelist.txt file, yes without the .exe extension.)

I'm about a hour into it but that's mostly because I stop and screenshot all the gore and crazy inmates with and without the camera display. Razz

In the main game I just lost a few things to a somewhat crazy doctor (Whom forgot his underwear and likes showing his ass/back to you.) and in this DLC I'm just wandering around in some hallway.

EDIT: There's the two naked bros too and the fat guy who seems to have become somewhat iconic according to the Steam artwork section. - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=208460768 ehh.

Just finished Whistleblower. Well, even though the DLC shares the gameplay problems with the main game (repetitiveness being the main one) I have to say that it was meatier than I would have imagined, and it felt almost as long as the main game. Kudos to the devs for delivering that Smile The Gluskin guy was really creepy, I think he was even crazier than Walker, the "cook" and the "doctor" together Laughing

The atmosphere and graphics, top notch as expected. Those are definitely the 2 strongest points in Outlast.

Finally, a sequel was hinted at, right? One of the documents towards the end of the game mentioned 3 sensible patients being moved to a "new facility". Plus the fact that...

 Spoiler:

I'll be up to it, hoping they work on delivering an improved gameplay (of course not adding guns for fucks sake)
