It actually works pretty well on a controller, they at least put some thought into it.
Pc is still the number one option, but its perfectly playable on a console.

What about the performance and visuals on consoles? Is it shite or bearable?

Depends, shite would be my initial answer. But if you are blind it verges on bearable.

I agree.
Most of the mods in that link are pretty useless, especially "Skip the Fade". I mean, The Fade is pretty cool, especially the first time you're playing, why would you want to skip through the story, I have no idea. The mod is only useful after you've played a shitload of times and cba with with the Fade anymore, but skipping it without experiencing it first is absolute horseshit.
The only useful mods there are Lock Bash, Camp Storage Chest (which you have if you own the Ultimate Edition I think) and JBTextures. And even those aren't needed to enjoy Dragon Age to the fullest.
If I were you Shawn, I'd just play it without mods, get the Ultimate Edition and enjoy.

No mods then? Gotcha!
Are all the quests traceable on the map? The combat is point and click right, as in you don't have to physically keep tapping buttons in the middle of the fight correct?

Has anyone got any experience with the JB3textures mod for DAO, as well as the optional addons for JB3textures? Namely.. how does it run on a system with 8GB sys and 1.28GB video? I've already applied the LAA flag to the .exe (this usually breaks the Steam "Ultimate Edition" but I used RLD's 1.05 crack and that works with the legit install as well as LAA) but I'm worried about potential crashes/memleaks issues due to only having 1.28GB of vRAM. Is it safe to install all the optional mods too?

A simple "no" would have sufficed, but oh well. I'll give it a shot and if it screws up I'll just remove the texture pack.

I've used the mod before, but the game just doesn't handle that well at all. I'm not sure if it ran out of memory or what. I have 2gb VRAM, 16gb RAM so it's the game's problem. So I uninstalled. Overall this game just can't have too many mods installed, there are plenty of problems that comes with it. I've had crashes, memory leaks, huge fps drops, long load times, input lags, latency lags(yes in a offline game, I don't know what caused it but it is looks like having a really high ping).

All you need is the no helmet mod, and the sexy Mage outfits

Soooooooooo, I'm going to play Dragon Age for the first time. Any "must have" mods? I checked that essential mods link above but it's bit too old and outdated. Mostly looking for bug fixes, tweaks, improvements and stuff. I guess Ultimate Edition will keep me long so additional quest mods are not that important.
YES, FOR THE FIRST TIME!

There are three things I would recommend:
1) JB3 textures - but I would just get the basic one and refrain from using optional stuff, or use only some of it (it tends to cause memory leaks and stability issues). It enhances the game's slightly dated visuals considerably
2) No helmet mod - it really makes conversations look way, way less silly
3) Extended quickbar - mostly if you're gonna try playing a mage. Personally I like to have all of my spells and abilities available on quickbar, even if I don't use them overly often. Basic DA:O quickbar won't let me do it when I'm playing a mage and it gets even worse in Awakening.
Other than that, I would leave the game more or less as it is for your first playthrough. Content and rule changes really aren't needed that much in case of DA:O.
