Wow, what a great DLC. Probably the best season pass I have bought. A proper DLC that interweaves with the original and series story and isn't a couple of cash grab levels made by a second dev team.
Well worth the £11 I paid when it was on sale.
Best DLC I played since the GTA4 DLCs. A bit better than the Dishonoured DLC (which was very good but didn't "wow" me).
when you're chasing sally in the Paris part there's an Ace card that flies at your face
that's why i love Bioshock, all that symbolism and hidden stuff they do
Yup!
Totally caught that as well, I knew there would be some sort of significance to it as soon as I saw it.
Man... just beat through it... and I fucking loved it. Bioshock is special to me, what a DLC. A year after Infinite's release... the game was a real treat.
Just to make sure I grasped everything....
Spoiler:
Elizabeth was partially responsible for the events that took place in the first Bioshock. She new that the outcome would eventually lead the Jack killing Atlas & freeing the little sisters, and so this was her motivation?

keep in mind (in case someone read this) that this dlc is all stealth based, so for people who don't like stealth there might not be much besides visuals and story.

in that case its kinda fascinating what the unreal engine is still capable of. havent played much of this dlc but the rainy passage in paris in the beginning looks beatiful

Yeah there are all sorts of interesting stuff on that Paris part.
Spoiler:
There is a painting on one of the stands after you go up on the stairs just after the nightmarish part begins, that shows Booker leading Elizabeth by the hand to the table that has the Ace on it it Suchong's lab.
Also there is a big lobotomy poster just after the flying Ace card you mentioned, but that is kinda hard to miss

did you see the Kaleidoscope with the "he's right behind you" bit and as soons as you turn around a splicer is right behind you reminds me of Bioshock 1, also next to it there's a neat poster with Elizabeth as a singer for lounge owner

Yeah I saw it, freaked me the hell out
Spoiler:
It seems Ken Levine has some sort of "behind you scare" fetish, there was a part in Bioshock 1, and there was another one in Infinite too, towards the end of the game where a Boy of Silence appears behind you after a press of a button.
Here in EP 2 the video itself that played in that machine was really disturbing and creepy too.. It really gave me the chills, and the splicer appearing behind me just topped it all off!
Finally finished the DLC, it was quite short all things considered (~3 hours), but it surely provided a satisfying conclusion to the ' Bioshock circle'. The great narrative was definitely there, good ol' Ken didn't disappoint
However , I can't say that I really enjoyed the gameplay. The big focus on stealth was interesting on paper but the execution here isn't that good, imo; considering the linear nature of the game and lack of alternatives (vigors aren't very useful, except maybe for the invisibility Peeping one, which makes the game even too easy, and guns are practically useless while fighting enemies in groups bigger than one). So it's all about messing around with the op crossbow and/or surprising people from behind. You can't even move bodies, but the AI doesn't care anyway The gameplay feels forced at times..no bueno.
The story is great though, as usual, entirely based on Bioshock 1 references/characters, and the art style/visuals are amazing..but the lack of depth and zero replayability make this carousel a nice cinematic guided ride that you play once, enjoy, and never touch again
(unlike Bioshock 1, which is something that you can replay several times, and still have fun. Not to mention System Shock 2 which has infinite replayability).
Yeah if you didn't look too much into the distant scenery the early section and it's little surprise were really impressive, some textures could be better but it's not like every little cheese sort and bagel need 2K textures.
(Distant DOF-bombed 2d buildings aside, still it works nicely.)
(That baby crib could have benefited from a better texture however and the NPC models are still a bit weird though it's not horrible looking or anything, aside from some of the younger children and the cats.)

Really nice design both in the main game and these two DLC, or maybe calling it artistic style would be better, a bit painted looking or how to say but still fairly realistic although somewhat "dreamy" maybe?
(The DLC uses a colder look though, really nice seeing more of Rapture and in UE3 this time.)
EDIT: Gameplay wise the crossbow and "that" plasmid were rather overpowered, I liked the audio logs as well though I think I missed one or two.
(I liked finding them back in System Shock as well, not just for the passwords and such but for getting more storyline related information and other details.)
EDIT: Wonder what's next for the "Shock" games, System Shock 3 or Bioshock 4 (3?) or maybe nothing, studio has been laid off I think it was and Levine was going to work on other stuff (Mobile market?) though I suppose making endless variations of the same game would have gotten stale/boring fast.
Does anyone have a working SweetFX install please? I must have tried a dozen different .dll setups and not a single one works on this (or Thief for that matter). Works fine on other games but not this .. and I've got MSI Afterburner disabled as well as in-game anti-aliasing
The log says it's supposedly working but nothing changes the screen.
~edit~
Never mind, I figured it out; FRAPS. While FRAPS is enabled/running, SweetFX doesn't "activate"
Huh? I don't know what all the praise is about. The story was weak, mainly due to the fact that they tried to play around the weakest part of the first DLC - the ending. Basically she wanted to punish Comstock/Booker so much that she went with it fully knowing that as a result either the girl will die or she'll have to come back and sacrifice herself? This is kinda stupid just for the sake of petty revenge. Also, why not just stab Booker in his office and get on with it without involving Sally at all.
Hmm I know that but I thought that was a bit different so somehow she came back, she still has all her memories of those earlier Burial at Sea events after all but I guess time travel and multi-dimensional existences is kinda hard to explain.
Anyway, played through both and i don't like it. Revisiting Rapture is good, but the wanna be stealth gameplay is just tedious, especially in EP2. The story while i give them a good effort is stupid, at least from a multi-verse perspective (which is what they are going for)

Its not that hard to explain, its more that it cannot be explained. There should be infinite Elizabeth's and an infinite Raptures etc. At the end where she starts the events of Bioshock 1 to save the little girls, it was pointless since in an infinite number of universes every possible outcome has happened. That's my main gripe with the original story. Kill Booker so he never becomes Comstock, but going by the multiverse theory there are inifinite numbers of Comstocks out there and its impossible to change that just by not letting a certain event not happen (the baptism). Not to mention that if Elizabeth has the power to see all the universes, she would basically become a godlike figure and understand that everything happens and theres no way to save anybody, so her going back to Rapture to save 10 little girls is beyond stupid.
I think Ken Levine have destroyed the franchise he created. I'm not gonna go into too much information. Let's say I found Bioshock to be a fairly decent spiritual sucessor to system shock, albeit a bit too easy even the hardest.
Bioshock inifinite+2 episodes completly fails on gameplay and storytelling. The story is so convoluting and it feels like it was written many years AFTER bioshock. Most scifi stories relies on time travel or dimension when they are running out of ideas. I'm never gonna replay infinite noir the episodes because the gameplay is broken and boring.
But I also refuse to belive the story how it's suppose to tie in with Bioshock 2007, it does not work.
Ken Levine is now suppose to make indie games, well good luck with that. Let another team/creator make a new bioshock game or system shock that doesn't evolve around dimensions.
Bioshock 2007 story was good because it could stand own it's own ground.
My rating on Episode 2 4 out 10.
*Superb artstyle
*Superb graphics
*Superb audio
*Terrible gameplay
*Convulted/bloated story that does not work with it's predecessors
Just finished the two DLCs and absolutely adored them, the stories were fantastic and the tie-in with the original Bioshock was wonderful, the perfect end to the Bioshock saga, one I've thoroughly enjoyed for the last seven years.
