There's no accounting for taste. I think the depth of Mads' portrayal is that of a sheet of paper.
He's satan - end of story. Charm? Well, I don't see the slightest bit of it. His dialogue is pretty cool - but the delivery is, deliberately, void of emotion. That's charm? Ok.
I consider Mads' one of my favorite actors - but he needs to be in drama, and he needs to stick with his native language.
Hopkins injected a real personality and motivation into the character. Sure, he had some fun with it as well - but he made the character likeable.
This show is all for show - pun intended. I don't think there's a need to make up a story about it being super sophisticated and challenging just because you enjoy seeing a new way of displaying a corpse that's impossibly elaborate every week or fancy meals being prepared to nice music in slow motion.
It is what it is, and nothing more or less.

I guess it's simply not your cup of tea Casus. While I agree that the show is founded on visual experimentations, aseptic style and purposely sterile dialogues, I think it's really unfair to label everything as flat showcase of grey, because the substance is definitely there, as well as the characterization.
Mads doesn't need to be depicted as a talkative lunatic psycho here, because he has a different purpose entirely. Even when he doesn't say anything, he emanates that intimidating 'aura' of mystery which is perfect for the role. The accent possibly makes this even more effective for me, since Hannibal is supposed have a foreign inflection. (but then again, I'm not Danish, so it's all a matter of perspective )

Mads makes Hopkins' Lecter look like a pantomime villain.
Only a few more episodes until the Vergers appear

If you're Danish, you can clearly hear bad English from a fellow Dane.
The reason it's a problem for me, is that while he's not natively American - he's a genius and he's a sophisticated mastermind. Having a stilted and clumsy accent clashes HEAVILY with that concept, for me.
I'm not saying it's objectively bad or anything - and I'm having fun watching it. It's just not what I would consider very good.
I think it's superficial as hell - and people are enjoying it mostly for the visuals and the atmosphere, which is perfectly legitimate. What I think is a bit silly is trying to make it this intellectually powerful show, simply because I don't think it's a smart or consistent show.
For instance, I think the Alana + Hannibal thing was beyond stupid. Completely against the asexual nature of Hannibal. But that's me.

Didn't Hannibal only have sex with Alana to have a cover for the night when he freed Gideon? He even wipes her wine glass on the night stand, basically confirming he drugged her so that she would sleep all night and give him an alibi.

Sure it was, but he's an asexual character. He could have arranged for cover in any number of ways. Actually having sex and being all suave and giddy is completely against character.
Obviously, you can make up whatever you want about him being manipulative and that he's able to get an erection and have sex like anyone - but that's not my perception of the character at all. He essentially despises base sexual behavior - which is evident if you've read the books about his relationship with Clarice.

Guess you didn't read the books well enough then. Lecter is many things, asexual is not one of them. He wouldn't have had sex with Alana, but not for the reason you made up here
Edit: or maybe you just haven't read Hannibal Rising yet. He wouldn't have slept with anyone (bar Clarice) because of Mischa.

I've only read Red Dragon, SotL and Hannibal.
The way he's described in those books is as a complete asexual. Sex simply isn't something he cares about at all. It's for the "pigs" - not someone as sophisticated as him.
But if the writer has made up a new reason, my point is still valid. He wouldn't do that - it's just not in his character.
I know about Mischa - and eating her was what made him the way he is. But I don't remember anything in Hannibal about him wanting sex but doesn't have it because of her.
Besides, I don't think Hannibal is Alana's type. She's impressed by him and his intellect - but sexually attracted? No, it just doesn't work for me.
But it's just one issue among many.
Again, to each his own - and I'm glad others are enjoying it on a higher level.

Well, I'm not going to spoil it for you then, but Hannibal Rising is worth a read. Skip the film, that's terrible - stick to the book
He doesn't _want_ sex but it's also not beneath him; given the period in which this show plays out, it's not out of the question he'd do it methodically

So, cop show where they start by hiring someone with superhuman abilities which this time is imagination, and the guy just knows everything. Stupid shit like "did she forget to feed your cat blabla" where he would never in a million years know that shit besides them owning a cat. This is the first episode by the way. Cop show and superhuman know-it all which is not officially part of the team, but working as a consultant. Where have we seen this before? Skippety skip this shit.

Either you're dumb as fuck or you're not sure what you're doing or thinking. Not insulted, not aggravated, yet posting shit when i pointed out how amazingly generic the show started.

Yes, downloaded 40+ Gb for this crap. But seeing as you haven't said otherwise, i bet things won't get better in terms of originality. It's only 13 episodes though so i'm guessing they at least focus on Hannibal instead of 20 episodes of fillers and the rest main plot.

It's not a cop show at all. At least after episode 6 (the first 6 are the "worst" ones) that is. And season 2 is even better distancing itself from ur typical procedural tv series..
So get ur shite together and instead of posting crap start watching
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)
