effective gameplay or some many hours idle time in there too?
i always play accurate earth maps (the giant one), that is time consuming by itself on the later stage of the game.
There is some idle time for sure, especially in later stages of the game there time between turn is about 1 minute. Play only on Huge maps, lately mostly on Communitas map. Before played on Small Continents Deluxe and before that on Small Continents with low sea level.
But Civ 5 is basically the only game I play regularly. Put it away to play some RPG or shooter but always come back to it again.
I don't think I've ever played on a small or normal sized map in any civ game ever. Big ass map or cba. A shame that it took civ 5 so long to make big maps playable, and even today I'm not very impressed by the performance. That kinda goes for civ 4 too - with a lot of mods.
I'm playing my first game on "Emperor" as Brazil after beating my second "King" game relatively easily. I'm doing pretty well, being #1 in 3-4 categories. I'm #7 in military though, but I manage to do that mostly because I've become really good in maintaining peace. Thing is, I'm around turn 280 and I don't have victory guaranteed despite doing pretty well, turns out one of my rival civs is Korea, and they're a science beast! I don't seem to be able to get close to them in the technology tree (they're #1 and me #2), and to make things worse they decided early on to pursue a cultural victory and are generating loads of tourism. They beat me to the Ufizi and Sistine Chapel but at least I took the Louvre from them and am building the Eiffel tower atm. Good thing is right now I can still pursue any kind of victory apart from military, I've hosted the world congress 3 times in a row so Diplomacy is a very powerful option right now.
Anyway, it's a very exciting game right now, and this uncertainty makes it even better

Bribe others to declare war on them, thus slowing down their little culture rush, and give you an edge
So I managed to win the cultural victory, no dirty tactics needed in the end I managed to stay in peace the whole game. Also, I even beat my previous time which was around turn 390 or so (year 1968 I think), now I won on turn 364 (year 1944). Not bad for my first campaign on "Emperor" I say
Anyway, this is my best campaign since I bought the game about a year ago, and I loved how I won it literally with a concert that flooded Korea (my last rival to overcome) with tourism and made me influential

They bundled assets for Incas, Spain, Mayas and Netherlands as part of Conquest of the New World Deluxe scenario, so that uses who do not have Spain/Incas DLC or G&K, while having BNW, can still play this new scenario.
Note that this does not enable these civs in new game, just in scenario.
