|

i took out my evo 212 cooler today, to replace the heatsink paste. Easy job, done quickly. But when i reboot the system, the memOK led lights up red. Damn, maybe i somehow touched the ram sticks or whatever. Take them both out, make sure they're clean and put them back in. Same shit. So i take them out again and switch them. Same shit. Put only 1 in and it boots (position a0 i guess). But it won't boot when i add the second stick.
Motherboard is a p8z77-v le plus
any known factors which could play a role here or simply the memory slot busted ?

dust or thermal paste in the bank. powersurge.
try to clean that slot with a brush.
get a powerfull lantern and check if you have between contacts on the plastic black marks from a powersurge.

Or you might have tightened the cooler so roughly that you bent pins on your CPU socket. Bent pins can cause dual channel not working, also delidding usually fucks up dual channel.

Damn... was it really that "easy" just to bent the CPU pins without realizing that you were doing it while re-seating the cooler?
I was thinking of cleaning my CPU this summer and re-apply some thermal paste but now you put the fear of the lord in me!

yeah don't really know how the hell i was able to screw this up lol. I've done this a couple dozen times and never even came close to screwing anything up lol.
But like i said, was about to buy a new mobo and cpu next week anyway, so at least it didn't happen at the worst moment (got a cheap gb mobo for 50-60€ for the the time being and gonna sell it with the cpu and ram and my old gpu to a neighbour.)
No sli support tho lol.
