if a top IT guy that's a director of a company says by getting rid of a virus/malware you use System Restore!
What would you say?

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where bart said "I can leave without ..." after being paid like a dollar for all day gardening.
That,
Quote: |
At the end of the week, Bart receives the sum total of fifty cents.
Mrs. Quick: Bart! You didn't say `Thank you'.
Bart: Listen Lady, I can leave without screaming, and I can
leave without saying a bad word, but there is no way that I
am saying `Thank you'.
Mrs. Quick: You're welcome!
-- Bart is upset that he worked his tail off and got paid only fifty cents,
``Three Men and a Comic Book''
Bart comes home and mutters angrily.

I've done it before, as a last resort though.
Normally malware bytes, spybot, combofix work nicely....

But but doesn't the virus/malware stay in System Volume Information? System Restore doesn't remove it just replaces it.
I like bum.

depends on what it is.
I wouldn't use system restore, but that does not mean it won't work.
The trouble is the mong will no doubt just open the same file again in their hotmail account and start all over again.

He's not wrong, but it's not optimal. And a method I'd most likely never use myself.

if someone has managed to install a virus/malware/rootkit on their updated os and antivirus/antimalware protected box, i just format it.
