Buzzfeed guy asked creationists at the debate to write questions for the other side. Sadest and most facepalm worthy things you can possible put to paper. Would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetically sad.
I'm done with the openings, and about 10 minutes into Ham's 30 minutes. So far, he is just either preaching, or listing those few scientists who happen to agree with him, and also throwing out non-sequiturs like there's no tomorrow, committing logical fallacies left and right. He is a showman, not an intelligent debater, and it shows.
I'm up to the part for the questions and answers..
Bill Nye: explain and answer the question as best possible and reasons why.
Ken Ham: dodge question, and talk about how great and powerful god is..thats the reason why.
Like the very first question "Can you explain how the bodies slowly drifting apart are part of the grand plan?"
'Sure, because god is AWESOME, and died for our sins, and is a powerful powerful god"
how is that an answer?
Man I wish I went to a christian college as a kid..would have aced science class! final comes put "Because god wanted it that way" as all the answers and got 100%!

Finished. Boy that was painful. On one side, we had a pretty good science communicator, who wasn't really on the top of his game. Seems most of his stuff went right over the head of the audience and his usual enthusiasm was dialed back a notch. He didn't call Ham out on obvious bullshit, but mostly because Ken was Gish-galloping like hell.
On the other side we had a zealot, who by his own admission is closed minded to any evidence, only employed two talking points: either "biblebiblebible", or if confronted with scientific evidence, his argument was "you can't really know that", which pretty much boils down to:
Can't be assed to find who wrote this, but it's pretty accurate:
'Bill may not have won this debate, but Ken sure as hell lost.'
I think its oxymoronic for him to argue the 'observational science' vs 'historical science' part.. saying historical evidence cannot be proven by the fact no one around was there.. but then harps on how the bible is the word of god, that itself is disproven....by his very own 'you cant prove that you wasn't there'.
how can he say "looking at something and assuming what it is from the past isn't reliable" while going "looking at the bible, and assuming what it is from the past, is highly reliable!"

You can see clearly that at a point emotion took control of Nye (and understandable). Was amazed that he could still perform somewhat, I would have most likely went 'ooh fuck this bullshit'

Sometimes the camera put Ken into the foreground, with Bill in the back sporting the face of a chainsaw murderer that is seconds away from snapping.
I won't watch the "debate" because I would end up cringing a lot. The amount of stupidity that I have to endure every day is already too much for my standards, but I really admire Bill for his infinite patience, even if his big efforts won't achieve anything here
(as per usual when it comes to this particular audience )
Ok, this is rich. Pat "Gays-Caused-9/11" Robertson implores Ken Ham to just shut up, since he makes Xtians look bad. Irony is entirely lost on these people.
Why would anyone want to waste their time with creationists?
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
2 hours in, deep into questions territory. There is one that pretty much sums up the entire "debate". What would change your mind?
Ken says: nothing. Sky daddy said so, good enough for me.
Bill says: only one compelling evidence would do it. Bring it on.
And these fucknuts have the audacity to call people who employ scientific skepticism "closed minded".
Basically that says it all, there's no point in trying to discuss anything with someone who is unable to change their mind even if evidence is presented to them.
If there was actually evidence today to support that there is a god, I would wholeheartedly accept it and repent. But there isn't, so until then....
Come on, it's not about truth, these people just want/need to believe in something. Anything, even fairy tale "gods", otherwise the unanswered questions of life, death, the purpose of life and what comes after ... terrify them.
They are scared people looking for shelter. I say, leave them at peace.

It would work best... if they left others at peace. Sadly these types of 'religious' people don't. Really sad because the majority of religious people are reasonable people.
Religion is still doomed, thought (spoiler). At first the Rabbi says that religion is so much more than psychological comfort, then goes on for almost the entire debate to prove how good religion makes people and how it comforts people in their last moments.
