Then Grindhouse came out and Tarantino forgot what grindhouse movies were all about. it was all talk and talk and talk and typical Tarantino talk and then that one scene that everyone remembered.

Tarantino, on Death Proof, says that he'll retire before he makes another movie as bad as that one, because he'd like to retire before tarnishing his legacy. "To me, it's all about my filmography, and I want to go out with a terrific filmography," he says. "Death Proof has got to be the worst movie I ever make. And for a left-handed movie, that wasn't so bad, all right? So if that's the worst I ever get, I'm good. But I do think one of those out-of-touch, old, limp, flaccid-dick movies costs you three good movies as far as your rating is concerned."

Inglorious basterds was just stupid. Good acting from some men. but other than that it was an oscar grab

i've seen it four times and I can't recall anything memorable.
like i said if you like the man...
you'll like his movies.
they're entertaining.
but no real depth.
just pew pew pew dialogue.
and it is true I saw it four times. I think I even gave it good score up in here. It's entertaining. Fun. And good sound production values. But yis, if you like it.... good on you. Not a lot of stuff from that deadly dozen wannabe burrowed its shit deep into my head.
waldo must be trolling...that was just too much bullshit in too few lines of text
Pulp was more Roger Avary, but Tarantino was more popular at the time. Even though Avary isn't good at writing look at his shitty The Rules of Attraction. Look at pulp, then look at jackie brown. Then look at pulp and then look at tRoA. It's evident who's more responsible for some of the crazy shit written in Pulp fiction. Even NBK was a very subdued Tarantino.
But hey, i have my own opinion of tarantino and I personally believe that his writing has gone down considerably and his movies are overrated. But that's just what I personally believe. Y'know. Don't blame me because you like his shit and you can't understand why someone would not like his shit. People have different opinions. It's not trolling.
does it get you excited? does it make you hard? do you go all ooooooh.
then yes it's masturbatory pew pew dialogue. that's what tarantino is known for.
pew pew pew dialogue. lacks any depth. filled with exciting one liners. It's like watching a western. "you brought two too many". that line is awesome... it sits with you. it's bad ass. for a western it's bad ass. You look at commando, let off some steam bennet. or predator... stick around. legendary one liners. used for badassery. tarantino uses them as dialogue. You had my attention but now you have my curiosity... lol. sure it sounds cool... but what is it really there for? for that 80s throwback of badassery. It's all b-movie dialogue given the budget to make it look cool with proper actors.
there are plenty of movies that have smart dialogue that aren't pew pew pew dialogue. That are written with purpose and poise. Tarantino just looks for cool things to say during a scene. You know the arguments you always win when you have a shower? That's pretty much how tarantino comes up with his scripts. It's all toilet fodder.
No I'm not accusing them of being hipsters. I'm saying they're behaving like hipsters... Oh you don't like what I don't like. That's ok your opinion doesn't matter. I liked Tarantino before you did anyway. You're just an elitist. Yaddiyadda it's ok. I have no problem with people loving Tarantino. At first and only watch his movies are epic pewpewpew. It goes the same for those who like transformers. But both directors are flawed.
I remember when grind house came out. So many people said death proof was the best thing there. Lol. Because it was Tarantino. Those are the people I hate. They even sucked off Tarantino for bringing over hero with jet li. That movie was ok... But it wasn't the best Chinese cinema had to offer at the time. But Tarantino presents... Boy oh boy how much weight that carried at the time. Lol.
Still I see his movies as pointless overrated popcorn flicks. Nothing more. Good actors though. Good performances. And that's at least a good point.
I liked Reservor Dogs and i liked Pulp Fiction, but that's about it. His films are popcorn flicks (nothing wrong with that) but when people start feeding me all this bullshit about how its art etc...
I thought Inglorious Basterds (or how do you spell it) was overrated drivel (i lost it when Eli Roth entered as the Bear Jew) and was made acceptable only by Waltz who i felt was the only one in the movie actually trying to do some acting. Django was just boring to me. Yes Waltz again and Di Caprio were great but honestly i couldn't get into the whole slave trade revenge bullshit.

Pretty much agree on everything. Waltz was the only interesting thing in these last two movies.

While I do think you're right to a certain extent comparing Tarantino's movies to Transformers is kinda bs.
Yeah, his movies aren't original (or at least most of them aren't) but the same can be said for The Departed, A Fistful of Dollars or even Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but they're still good movies. They don't need to be original to be good, who knows how many original movies I've watched that were utter shit.. He does lack in depth, but that's not what made him stand out in the first place, why do people expect something from him that's never gonna come ? Tarantino is a decent to good director HOWEVER, all of us can agree he won't ever reach the level Kurosawa, Tarkovsky or even Scorsese (just random examples) have achieved.
I agree with you, he really does need a good writer, otherwise he's just gonna remain an arrogant twat. (see dispute with Scorsese)

Of course Tarantino's movies are mainstream (not mainstream mainstream like say "Transformers"). That doesn't make them any less awesome, and that doesn't make him less of a genius and a great creative mind. Now I wouldn't call his movies art, but making movies is catalogued in many places in the world as the "seventh art", so I guess a separate discussion could come out of it

But that's just it, Tarantino's movies are considered to be more than mainstream popflicks, but they aren't. I don't see much difference between Transformers and Django other than the latter is made for a more mature audience (the blood and stuff).
Django, for me, was a glorified revenge movie. Seen it a thousand times and it didn't do anything particularly different or better than some before.
I don't see much difference between Transformers and Django
Oh well, I can't really help you with that
Btw, Django is one of my less preferred movies of his. I liked IB much more and I even preferred Kill Bill, but still it was a great piece of entertainment.

Well i was a little let down with IB from the start because i thought it was going to be more like the Dirty dozen or something similar. But again, apart from Waltz, the others were really bland one dimensional characters. Take Brad Pitt for example, the only thing he does in the movie is try to act like an Italian. I didn't find the conversations that great as some people did.
Im a huge Tarantino fan and Ive got to agree on the lack of depth. his movies are mostly about his typical style which is appealing to many, good dialogue and good performances. Thats more than enough for me to get my entertainment value I watch other movies to make me think.
I'm pretty sure I've seen this thread countless of times already, like a cyclic anniversary
Every time Tarantino is the topic of the discussion, you always see the same posts, the same opposed opinions, with the same answers and even the same reactions, and all ends in a pleasant dark comedy. But you can notice one thing: with each new movie release, the level of frustration systematically gets a major boost, as the two things are directly proportional. I find it amusing
