“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games"
so thats the reason then
prepare for a dozen of outsourced star wars free2play mobile mmos
and now that the whole Star Wars thing is firmly in the hands of beloved Disney and all under the direction of the mighty JJ Abrams, who now is responsible for both Star Wars and Star Trek, what could possibly go wrong?
Disney is bad, JJ Abrams is evil, he takes over all we love and abramsifies it, I warned people back in 2006 but no one listened, they were too busy worshipping
it's a business. would it be better if l-arts itself went into the ground like thq and sell their property at a loss? Star Wars games didn't make lots of monies.
Im glad disney bought it. They have the monies to keep things runnings. and jj is just a director... he's not anyone in gaming industry. he's trying to get into it. but it's not going to happen anytime.
It's sad because its a studio with much history, but their latest major games seemed pretty mediocre to me (Force Hurrleashed 1 & 2) and 1313 seemed to be along the same lines.

Disney just saw that they can OUTSORCE they work to koreans/china/poland/german for peanuts and crate AAAAAAAAAAAAA++++++ games... then pay 1000000000mln for a internal developer here
yeah just like it was done with the port of Resident evil 4 and Alien Colonial marines .... oh wait they sucked
Last year, just before E3, LucasArts shifted focus and turned it into a game about the masked bounty hunter Boba Fett.
This happened last May. Star Wars creator George Lucas looked at 1313—which at that point had been scrapped and refocused multiple times—and told the team he wanted it to be about Boba Fett, the mercenary whose origins as a clone were revealed in the Star Wars prequel movies.
You can see concept art from this version of Star Wars 1313 above. Boba Fett stands over someone who looks a whole lot like Bossk, a lizard-like bounty hunter who Fett has apparently captured. They appear to be in the seedy underworld of Coruscant.
"They ended up with movie tech that wouldn't fit in a game, and game tech that wouldn't fit in a movie," a source told me. "1313 was always in danger of not being made."

Stupid concept, why use the same characters all the time, thats why kotor was such a great game, it strayed away from chewed up stories of the star wars universe.
with a strange wiff of fate StarWars 1313 a game that looked like UNCHARTED !!! lands in the Hands of EA .... but thats not all

Former Naughty Dog Scribe Amy Hennig Ends Up At EA
The woman who helped bring you one of gaming's most respected franchises has a new gig.
After leaving Naughty Dog, where she penned scripts for the acclaimed Uncharted franchise, writer Amy Hennig has joined Electronic Arts to work on a new Star Wars game, currently in development at Visceral Games. Studio general manager Steve Papoutsis confirmed on EA's blog that Hennig will assume the role of creative director:
"Over the last few weeks, Amy and I have spent a lot of time talking about what her first project would be. There are a lot of different directions we could have gone, but I could sense that what really excited her about this opportunity (because let's face it, we weren't the only ones knocking at her door) was Star Wars. Amy's a huge fan. We happen to be making a Star Wars game. Just thinking about the possibilities made both of us even more excited about having her join the team."
EA hasn't officially confirmed this new mystery Star Wars title, though it's rumored to be an open-world sandbox game. Don't forget that EA and new owner Disney have signed a 10-year, multi-title deal that makes EA the exclusive creator and producer of new games based on the legendary sci-fi franchise. As for Hennig, it's probably not ironic that she got her start in the industry at EA back in 1991, where she worked as a game designer and artist. Then she moved on to Crystal Dynamics to work on The Legacy of Kain franchise, among others.
And of course, we all know about her higher-profile stint at Naughty Dog for the awesome Uncharted series. We knew it wouldn't take her long to find another job.
a game that looked like Uncharted is now MADE BY THE MAIN FORCE THAT CREATED UNCHARTED !!!
Company representatives have indicated that the game may be revived through a licensing deal with an outside studio, but until then Star Wars 1313 remains on hold.
considering that disney holds the rights and made a deal with EA for all future (and current i guess) games on the Star Wars franchise, it's possible they resumed work on it (or are planning to). i guess it depends on how much has been done and how the current state is.
but knowing EA, we should see an epic flood of half assed SW games coming soon our way ^^.
