So I was trying to open an offshore account, because I'm (hopefully) moving abroad soon. I have a normal account at citibank. They can't do offshore for me 'cause I ain't rich enough. HSBC will do it, says the internet. I go there, first manager I talk to doesn't even know what that is. Calls this lady who also doesn't know. So I go to a different branch, guess what, the manager there also has no clue. But she eventually figured it out, after I showed her their own website with the details.
It took her one month to open a regular deposit account (she said it would take 2 days...). Today she tells me the offshore account may take 6 months (when I made the first deposit she said it would take one month)...
And all of this just because I need to take some money with me (I'm selling my car) and I will have monthly international transfers of small amounts, but there's no simple way of doing it without this fucking account. There are some good money transfer solutions (like transferwise) but of course they don't work with brazilians, thanks to our government's ridiculous amount of burocracy.
(and there's paypal, but they charge really high exchange rates here, and I know a guy who had his account closed for no reason and lost all his money)

@Invasor damn, sorry to hear that... pointless pseudo-bureaucracy like that really sucks. I'm not surprised at all that those managers didn't know anything, mine didn't either back then xD (not even when it came to processing the most basic actions)
At least there's a good news behind all this. Hope you find a great place that will make you forget about all the huehuehue madness

What I've been noticing these days is an increase in nepotism when it comes to getting a job, which results in... that's right... incompetent idiots not knowing the first thing about their jobs, all they know is to collect the salary every month and wear a suit at work holding a piece of paper or watching porn.
