In that regard, I can safely say: I myself am an alcohol man. My favourites being red wine, beer and whisky. Very Happy

Im none of the above..I wish I could get into enjoying a good drink. Sad
But no matter what it is, whisky, beer, vodka, rum, brandy, wine..They all taste like one thing to me, alcohol.

Don't get me wrong, I can tell the difference..but everything tastes like 95% alcohol flavor with 5% undertones of whatever it is..lol. Why i'm never picky when I go out to drink, it all tastes like the way rubbing alcohol smells(but not as sharp)..So i just get whatever is easy to order.

If there was a gameshow for testing drinks to see if it had alcohol in it..I could win it hands down, like pick up 1 part per million of alcohol in drinks..lol

Well, I dont know how much you've been drinking over the years, but I really had alot of alcohol, beeing drunk nearly every weekend since I'm allowed to drink. (I still dont consider myself alcoholic, since I strictly only drink on weekends, and it has slowed down a bit lately, because my body just doesnt get any younger. Sad )

But I think taste can be developed. First glass of Whisky -> blergh! First glass of wine -> blergh! but with time, you can adapt your body and tongue to it. And I can tell you it's a really nice thing to be able to enjoy a good glass of deep red italian montepulciano or french St. Emilion (f.e.).

You can do it DX!

btw. what about apéritifs? I really like Cynar lately! Smile

Im the same as Ankh.
I hardly EVER drink, for a while my drinking for a year consisted of something at new years..and maybe a handful of rum and cokes randomly every 4-5 months since it is one of the few drinks I can casually drink over time. Otherwise if Im going out to get drunk, I go for long Island Iced teas they taste like ass, but after 1 you dont care anymore..lol

I know wine, and champagne I cant stand at all. Every time I drink wine, you could give me a glass of wine, and a glass of old grape juice that has bit of floating mold in it. And i couldn't tell you which was the wine if I didn't see them.

But i would like to enjoy a good glass of sipping whisky or bourbon at night..if I could learn to ignore, or get accustomed to, the alcohol taste where its no longer the first thing I notice.
I like the flavor of bourbon itself. but the alcohol taste kills it for me.
Its like a pizza with black olives (I don't like the tastes of them one bit)..I always eat then the olive flavor punches me in the face and I think "this is great tasting, but the olives overpower it and ruin it".

Also I'm completely ignorant on the last part. What is apéritifs? I tired looking it up, but I don't think I've ever seen or heard of it to get an idea of what it actually is.

I like wine a lot. And strong beer. And mojitos, and caipirinhas, and margaritas. Polish flavoured vodka was a good experience, and whisky is not bad. I rarely drink spirits nowadays though, because I usually get too drunk on them.

I really think wine and beer improve social gatherings (or make them more tolerable...), and certainly make conversations more interesting.

I despise alcochol. It serves nothing but bad things. At least here in Poland - Most people have no fucking idea how to drink like normal human being. Drinking means getting fucked up as much as possible. Then trouble becomes and people are driving cars intoxicated.

I don't drink alcochol at all

I drink an occasional beer from time to time but really rarely now.

Back in my early 20's when there was vodka involved as much as I hated the taste I just let my self go. But I got wasted really fucking bad one time and I let some one down because of it. From that time I don't drink vodka or any stronger alcohol.

This is incredibly familiar.. it's exactly the same for me too.
It's been several years already that I don't drink anything, except for a beer/glass of wine with friends on special occasions.

I've had some rough moments in my "youth" that weren't pleasant, and made some beloved people unhappy. I hated that, so I had to take the adequate countermeasures and here we go, with the always sober, boring Razz version of myself. I quite like it, though.
My sanity sadly was already compromised from the start, but that's another story Very Happy

Apéritif is just a glass of alcohol, like a Porto wine, Campari, Martini etc. that you drink before eating, to get your stomach in the mood. Smile

Just like a Whiksy is good as a digestif.

That said. Wine is best with the right food. Sometimes a bit of hard cheese is enough to get a really good taste out of red wine.

I drink just about every weekend, haha... Nothing too crazy, but I started really getting into mixing drinks and I'm questing for the holy grail of the most delicious possible drink while fucking you up without you really noticing. Very Happy

So far I have 4 strong candidates and 1 is a strong favorite for all that I've served it to.

Other than that I really love hard cider types, anything apple I'll give a shot. I'm a huge fan of apples in general so just makes sense for me.

I don't drink much really, I just like quality drinks. I prefer to drink 2-3 glasses of something good slowly through an entire evening, rather than taking the route most people take these days: drink to get drunk. I can handle plenty, just don't see the point Razz

Aside always appreciating a good beer, I like brandy. But if I have to pick a favourite drink ever, it's Metaxa Smile

Sort of like cognac, but extremely smooth with a unique flavour. Highly recommend it if you have never tried it Razz

I enjoy beer with friends, I try not to overdo it since alcohol wreaks havoc on my system Sad On new years eve, I drank shitload of red vine (a friend brought his parents vine), I had some kind of allergic reaction to it, had red spots on my face for two days -.-"

But at home I don't drink at all.

Port and wine, sometimes beer.

I drink for the flavour, though, and not in such quantities that the alcohol has much effect. I have no idea why anybody would want to get so fucked up that they feel like they're about to die the whole of the following day.

Started drinking when I way about 14 or so. Was still in grade school and been drinking pretty much every weekend throughout high-school. At college it slowed down a bit, 1-2 times a month but more like 6-8 times a month during the summer and holidays. Right now it's down to about once a month.

I usually get pretty drunk, almost never drinking just a few. Often I don't remember most of the night and spend the next day in bed.

We almost exclusively drink white wine right now. We went though beer and spirits phase earlier. But it's all the same really, we only drink to get drunk so all alcohol is the same.

Drinking just a little doesn't really do anything for me. I can be a tiny bit more sociable but not enough to find it fun. After a few proper drinks you end up doing stuff you never would do otherwise. Meeting random people, dancing, doing weird stuff and even silly conversations become incredibly fun.

Even if you don't remember everything you can piece it back together with friends. Anyway, I do stuff I would never do sober or just tipsy, so that's my justification. Although I have a pretty closed personality, so someone more open might just be happy with a few or no drinks.

If you wake up the next morning and can't even remember how you got home, that's a fucked up feeling. Gets even worse if you have to search for your phone, a single shoe, your jacket or anything else. Had this the last time after the bday party of my brother, but everybody was fucking wasted that evening. Damn you "tequila boom" Very Happy

Hey, I explicitly opened this thread to keep the off-topic out of your Whisky review thread. I'm sure this thread wont last very long.

I'll have a Whisky review for your thread in the next weeks. Bought a 17y Benriach Solstice for a friend last week and I'm sure we'll taste it in the coming weeks, once we get time for it. Smile
