|
 |
I know I was living in a dark age regarding builds of late, but since when did overclocking become so simpleeees... 3.5 > 4.0 with like hardly a degree of difference and a voltage change for stability of 1.15 > 1.4 - Think the engineers state take it to 1.55v and your good for 4.2-4.5 mostly on these Fx's - but so far nothing is dying
Im sure it could go to 4.2 even higher at this rate but I dont want to be greedy..
Or is it just the FX cpu's are extremely doable.

wow really? I could not of dreamed of clocking my e6600 to its 3.4 on stock cooler lol
It just seems less should we say awkward or something, maybe its the ease of the tools and bios that makes it less scary looking..

e = duo
q = quad

ah missed the e lol.
Anyway, it's probably the chip that is different. Iirc the 6x20 are a generation after the 6x00 ones. iirc anyways.

yeah think sabin had a good or still does E series but his was higher than mine. most the e6600's were generally great overclockers though, its been at 3.2-3.4 constantly for last 4 years solid and no issues.

Hijacking the thread a bit. Couldn't afford a cooler for the SO's CPU as well. Is it worth OC-ing her 2500k with stock cooler? If so, how much can I push it? It hasn't been OC'ed before. Is it as simple as changing the multipliers in BIOS? Do I need to know anything else? Thanks.

You should be able to go as far as 4.2 at least without adding to the vcore, and it is as easy as changing the multi in bios. Just be sure to change it on all cores.
You can obviously go as far as you stay in safe temperatures. Just use Prime95 and run a blend test for 30min while checking your cores temps with Realtemp.

Should have stayed with the 2500k, if it wasn't a present, I wouldn't have bought the 4670k not even beaten, it's so much hotter than Sandy Bridge. Wouldn't even be surprised if OC-ing both will yield the same temps, even though I have the 212 EVO. Intel really fucked up with the IHS on Ivy and Haswell, didn't they. Didn't want to believe the word being passed around, but it seems people are right.
