I'm running a HDMI cable from my PC to my TV... it's a $5 10 metre 1.4 HDMI cable from eBay. Every where I read it's saying it's not optimal, but tbh I can't see anything wrong with this. The frame rate is still fluid, the picture never drops out and the colours look fine.
Am I missing out on anything here?

Unless I have misunderstood something in the past you pay extra as a general rule for buld quality/ shielding (not including of course you can sometimes buy a HDMI 1.4 cable and find its not certified 1.4 or is actually 1.3 etc..)
HDMI uses a digital signal so if it works it works, its not like in ye olden days when it made sense to buy better quality cables.
But I am sure someone will come along and tell mewhy my 10m cheapo 1.4 cable (that works perfectly) must be replaced this instant with a £20000000 cable, or even this one - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/audioquest-diamond-3-3-high-speed-hdmi-cable-dark-gray-black/2383276.p?id=1218324437192

You are only transmitting plain old 1080p 2D picture with audio, which is not so fast regarding clock and bandwidth and thus represents no problem on such cable length.
There might be problems if you want to push it to the maximum of HDMI 1.4 (4k or 3D picture, embedded 100 Mbps ethernet connection etc), but this depends on cable quality.

No, you're not missing anything.
The only thing cheaper cables sometimes cock up is what Guy_Incognito says; there *are* cheap cables that tout 1.4b compatibility but aren't really. That has nothing to do with shielding or the connectors though, that's simply the internal wiring that's bad.

It's not like analogue cables where the signal are noticeably degraded ending up in a noisy/poor picture. If there is a problem you'd notice digital glitches and stutter/synchronisation issues. If you don't experience any of those issues don't worry.
