God damn cheap Chinese petards and fireworks, and stupid kids who have been throwing them for days, ENTIRE day, it feels like we are being bombarded again.
This is why I don't like this time of year.

It's firecrackers btw xD
And yeah I really don't care about those things, and don't see anything fun and cool in seeing something explode. Fireworks are ok and pretty, but firecrackers, nope...

Kick their asses, wait for the parents and kick their asses even harder(I suggest using the kids as weapons on their own parents).
I mean if it was around here it would be a bit annoying but nothing major, but having kids doing that in an area that was/is bombarded?
What the hell?

You're not alone..I really hate this tradition . Thankfully now that I'm living full-time in the wilds with Bear Grylls I don't have to tolerate all this annoyance anymore.
My old uni apartment near the town on the other hand was nearly unbearable in its post christmassy days, so much noise from pretty much everything. Not even earplugs could fix that. Stay strong and try to not kill anyone! (I know, it's hard xD)
It's even worse when you have pets, they are terrified by firecrackers and fireworks

It can be fun as long as you don't do it in a residential area. As kids, we used to light these small red ones on fire - I was addicted to them and a single pack of half an Euro got you like 20 of them so it was beyond cool. I bought some for my nephew to try too - these barely make much of a bang though. If you're going to do it, do it all at once and somewhere isolated, don't do it for hours at a time - that just pisses people off.

Well I'm not a violent type, but it just gets harder with years, didn't bother me this much when I was younger (and all buildings around me have 7-8 floors, can't really trace the source : D )... but say 10+ years ago, the firecrackers (thanks for the proper expression) sounded way milded, this shit they are throwing now sounds almost like real bombs, not cool at all :c

I know the kind you mean and that's uncool to use - they make the windows of buildings vibrate which is an obvious sign it's too loud.

I've been hating those things ever since a dog sought refuge in our house one new years eve, cowering in terror as kids were popping those things every minute or so.
Poor thing looked less than a year old so it was likely a first time experience. He must have gotten spooked by all the bangs and ended up around our place. Seen the open door and rushed in.
Seemed to have gotten over it by morning so we let him out, still, seeing anything being that deep in terror was enough to hate these things for life.

I was expecting a thread about animal rights.
Used to like firecrackers a lot but they don't feel the same anymore when you've fooled around with dynamite.

It's unbearable if you live in a building complex. All the concrete and buildings amplify the sound so much. Luckily I'm home in a small town for the holidays so I'll skip the ear rape this year.

My cousin almost blew his finger off. Luckily, the hospital was able to stich(sp?) it together.
Yea, if one of them don't go off, don't be stupid and go and see what "might" be wrong with it. It could set off at any time.
We probably will see few people that should be nominated for Darwin Award around new year!

We used to call them (firecrackers) bangers. They are banned here now. When I was a kid I loved them, some friends and I would get into all sorts of mischief with them. Now that I'm older and wiser I wish they would just ban firework sales to the public. I don't see why people wouldn't go to a professional display which would be much better and much cheaper. They are a bloody nuisance.

Ban firecrackers yes, but fireworks no.
Every year in Zagreb we have the festival of fireworks, where professionals from 2 or 3 countries (Cro included) make beautiful fireworks accompanied by music. It really is beautiful. But these are professional pyrotechnics, not 12-15 yr olds.

Those people have the tendency to hurt themselves anyway, with or without the help of firecrackers.

Fireworks I get, they're pretty, nice to look at and sometimes really original. But petards/firecrackers? Heck no. Not only can that shit blow in your hand and, depending on power, hurt, maim or even kill you, but all it does is make a loud sound.

Fireworks is awesome... ONCE a year. Remember, animals does not share our love of fireworks.
Those rockets with wodden pin was banned some years ago here, and it seems to have helped. Only 15 people got eyedamage this year.
