Yeah Frostbite is getting pretty big with EA using it for a ton of upcoming games.
It's probably gonna be their go-to engine for everything, and it's understandable.
These days it just takes too long to make new engines for every game so it's best to either license one and use that or if you're a huge company like EA, build your own versatile engine and develop that on the side and use it for as many games as possible.
Makes optimization easier and allows developers to get used to one engine, make games faster and better.
Are they gonna sell it though? I'd expect EA would keep it to themselves.

Considering they -DICE- spun it off into a separate company indicates 2 things to me:
- Still 100% their IP. EA may be using it a lot internally, still DICE's product.
- Definite intent to market it widely to compete with UE3 and to a lesser extent CE3/Unity.
Obviously remains to be seen how successful they'll be at that. Unigine have been trying and have a good looking engine, but that hasn't done much for them. In this case obviously Frostbite already has bigger gamers and companies on the market with their product.

What's the source? I googled it and found nothing.

I guess it would make sense. With EA releasing a wide array of games in various genres and on different platforms (mobile, this/next generation consoles, PC) they would already have a fully featured engine built and well marketed. They also have developers who have transitioned from UE to FB.
Seems like a perfect opportunity to offer the engine for licensing (or at least, it will be once they get their games out).

It's a great thing. UE4 + Frostbite are the best engines out there. Not that impressed personally by cryengine 3 though.

Frostbite and CryEngine.
UE3/3.5 can still on D3D9, but I wouldn't count on UE4 still supporting it. About fucking time as well, as D3D9 is even older than the PS3 and 360.

dice engines in bf games were always kinda shitty - they either run and look decent on some very fast machines, or run and look fucking terrible on low-mid end ones. Also bf4 with everything maxed to the roof at moments looks so terrible its not even funny + its gigantic performance hog.
Hope that unreal engine and maybe that ubi snow flake (or whatever it was called) will have decent optimisation/scaling on various types of hardware. From the videos shown so far unreal engine looks most interesting, but videos are nothing without some benchmarks on various cards.
I`m also curious about W3 engine because 1080p trailer looks kinda mindblowing, wonder if current high end cards will be able to run this smoothly at least 40+ fps with everything maxed out (maybe without some crazy x8/16 AA and other resolution scaling stuff)
