"we're also planning on adding a 'durability' system, where being defeated will cause your ship and installed modules to gradually wear out and become less effective."
thats the model for combat which can be good, not many mmo's do durability stuff no more last i remember was neocron online.. which made crafters worth while.
pvp is all cargo loot destroyed with some random items remaining for scooping.
otherwise death is all cargo destroyed.
.. micro transactions on release though so leaves sour taste.

Thanks for the feedback, Arch,
We want to have real consequences to defeat, but don't want to make things too harsh, as we want people to enjoy PvP, not be terrified of it.
Similarly, the durability system we're considering would be intended to achieve the same result - drive demand for replacements and upgrades - and would go hand-in-hand with the crafting system.
We'll be discussing all of these things in more detail with the community as development continues, so any or all of it could change, depending on what our players suggest.
Majority of the game happens on the 2d map you see for 1 and half seconds on the first video
(All travelling happens there. the 3d map is only for really small local space).
Also, it's horribly buggy still (alpha so I understand that). For example, I killed a pirate, it was first shooting at me, maybe 2 or 3 shots and then it stopped shooting and moving and I just slowly recharged my mining lasers and cut it to pieces.
All missions are named 'Find thief' or mmh... 'Pirate killing'.
But who knows maybe they'll eventually deliver the best game ever
