For some reason, this just seems so much more promising than star citizen. The game feels like playing the space-sim render movies from the 90s which is kind of awesome.

I just hope they stick to their own style and produce both great games. I want Elite to be Elite and Star Citizen to be Freelancer/Wing Commander. Space sims have been gone for a while so I really don't mind playing both of them Very Happy

Exactly.

Yah, the more they succeed the better for all of us. Heck, those two games having success might even make Egosoft open their eyes and start producing good games again.

That said, I'm inkling more towards Elite at the moment. The multiplayer aspect of SC just doesn't appeal to me with what I foresee will be a mass of lag, poor performance and grinding(even should the game itself be good or great), and I suspect Elite will end up doing SP better given that's their focus.

Same here

even though i backed both, SC has completely fallen from grace in my eyes, with the constant 'stretch goals' which are only designed to unlocks ships to make more money to get a stretch goal etc etc etc. the whole thing is verging on shady.

Elite however has plodded along with not too much fanfare, with the support of loyal backers, and fand who love the game, and it actually looks fantastic.

Contrary to rumour, the 'damocles' video did use all in-game assets and not pre-rendered. it was just touched up after the fact.

Also up until a few days ago i thought i would be playing the alpha in 10 days (yes it is on schedule by all accounts) but then realised i had only pledged enough for the beta. Sad sad tungsten

How much have you pledged Tungsten? There's still time before the new store goes live!

I've put all my funding into this and not SC, my initial pledge has stayed the same, I didn't like way SC was heading, and now i think I made the right decision .

I managed to reach the £200 for the alpha, like you i was a teenager when i first played Elite and now if this goes the way it's looking, i will die happy Very Happy

I made it to £100 like you then pledged the rest when i could afford it in £50 increments to lessen the blow.

Keep us informed on how the alpha goes! I'm going to play this one when it gets released, so I get the full experience from the start Very Happy
I've been playing too many betas lately, and find myself getting bored with them while they aren't even completed yet (I'm looking at you, Prison Architect!), I don't want this to happen with my all time favourite franchise.

Exactly ^ 2. I don't want Elite to be like either one of those. Wing Commander was the arcade racer of space games (but with luke skywalker). And Freelancer was a space game for the masses with shitass controls and arcade physics. Smile

Now now don't be afraid. No one will take away your hardcore membership card for liking anything else than a simulation. Reaction

Anyhow:

This looks very promising. I've never had the chance to play the original game because..well I wasn't even born back then Razz, but I really like the idea/concept (and who doesn't).

Also +1 @ Morph's post. We absolutely need these games to be successful if we want the genre to be popular again. We cannot afford failures! So far so good Smile
