Hey guys, so for christmas this year i'm looking to make a major overhaul to my current pc, either upgrade or building a new machine if necessary. I currently have Intel i5 650 3.20GHz, 500gb hard drive, Nvidia GTX460, Windows 7 64bit SP1. Now i'm currently on an internship program and by the end of it i think i'll be getting £500 for lasting the 6 months so I intend to use all of that towards new parts and my dad will put however much else is needed, I don't want him paying for the whole thing even if it is a Christmas present.

Now i'm thinking with the money coming my way and even a bit more of my own money to get an i5 4670k and i'm thinking this as a graphics card http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-msi-gtx-770-twin-frozr-oc-28nm-pcie-30-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1137mhz-boost-1189mhz-cores-1536-dport- . In terms of upgrading I only really do it every 3-4 years so i'm hoping these two, as a base to build from, will last this time period. As for RAM, mobo, psu and all that other good stuff i'm hoping for some good bang for buck suggestions from people far more experienced and knowledgable than I. As a maximum budget i'll say around £900-£1000 but obviously if i could keep it below that then that'd be great as well.

Looking forward to hearing some suggestions Smile.

Well, one of the best upgrades you can ever do for your system that you'll notice within the first few seconds is getting an SSD in your system Smile

That is damn right.
(starting from highest perf/pricet) 840pro/plextor m5pro/840/plextorm5/840evo/
Althought if youre not crazy about top notch performance, any of these will suffice undeniably.

Gtx770 twinfrozr is neat card, I have one myself, it's one of the quietest 770's as far as i know.
4 Gigs gonna give you advantage in higher resolutions (I dont know which one are you going to use)

Well, actually, if you check up my sig, that build was around your budget almost 2 months ago (excluding the 103sj, including cpu cooler, the 840pro is 128gigs). I'm not sayin you have to get the same parts, it's just to give an example of well picked (and quality proven) components for that price range build.

What iNs says Smile

His system is pretty much a typical best bang system right now. For some parts, like the PSU, you'll need to tell us where you'll be getting parts, because not all shops have all the good stuff. Basically though, as a general guideline: see unit you like? Look up a review (and if there's a review of it on Jonny Guru, that is the only review you should care about), see if it's built by either Seasonic or Super Flower (most PSU brands don't build their units entirely; they rebrand them and only do stuff like the fans). If not, I'd personally discard them straight away. SF are harder to find in Europe though.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, really appreciate it. So I was thinking for PSU the XFX Pro 750W Black Edition which I believe is Seasonic built. Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s as my choice of RAM and Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO for keeping the rig cool. Seagate Barracuda 2TB as main hard drive and maybe a Samsung 128gb 840Pro as SSD. Not so sure which motherboard to opt for, maybe either Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H, MSI Z87-G45 Gaming or the one in iNs sig?

I connect my computer up to my Samsung tv and the resolution I use is 1360 x 768, the games i'm looking to play mostly are Skyrim with a lot of mods, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Batman Arkham Origins, possibly BF4 and of course future proof it for the likes of Watch Dogs and such.

We do our computer business with a local company that usually orders in parts that i've requested in the past and built the computer for me so i'm hoping they'll be able to get the ones listed, i'll be giving them a ring tomorrow to see what they can do. They're a very good local business and my dad knows the owners very well and they usually knock off maybe £100 or so from the total price in the past, here's hoping they will again Very Happy

ballistix sport are fine, although (maybe you are gonna be lucky as well) i got mine tacticals 1866 at sport1600 price, perhaps they are available for you too

regarding motherboards, I wasn't considering gigabyte back then and chose asrock above msi because it has 2 uefi chips (in case of a fuck up, you can just switch the jumper and carry on) and debug LED. I also didn't like msi having killer network interface (300 megs of drviers? wtf). If it's important for you, the twinfrozr 770 you are considering would fit the black/red layout of msi (both gaming series).

With that resolution, 770 is going to be more than enough.
